US equity index opens higher after Europe talks of dealing with inflation.

US equity index futures are expected to open by at least 0.4 percent higher this afternoon after the weekend brought with news of headlines from Europe that low inflation must be dealt with. The Dax, happily, has continued its solid run from yesterday into today’s session too, now looking to soon test the almighty 10,000 mark. This offensive on low inflation provides scope for an equity-positive environment once again, with monetary policy in the region likely to stay loose. And the Dax and other European indices are testament to that.

The main stories on the London equity market today are Aveva, the engineering software maker, and, once again, AstraZeneca. The market reacted very positively to news that Aveva’s pre-tax profit rose 9 percent, helping the shares break 2400p temporarily. Astra, however, suffered a 2.3 percent fall after Pfizer finally walked away from trying to acquire the company.
