Daily Spread Betting Round-up
How many goals did England score against Andorra?
Gareth Southgate’s side went one better than they did at Wembley and scored five against a plucky Andorra side who ultimately were out of their depth. Ben Chilwell, Bukayo Saka, Tammy Abraham, James Ward-Prowse and Jack Grealish scored the goals that saw England put one flip-flop in next year’s World Cup finals in Qatar.
England Total Goal Minutes (settled at 281)
England winning 5-0 with five different scorers might look like a very predictable result that it would be hard to profit from, but buyers of England Total Goal Minutes made a nice profit. The spread was set at 188-203, so buyers at 203 made 78 times their stake, Jack Grealish’s 86th minute first goal for England turning them 8-point losers to decent winners.
What happened in the game between Scotland and Israel?
Scott McTominay scored an injury time winner as Scotland beat Israel in a five-goal thriller at Hampden Park to stay on course for the World Cup qualifying play-offs. Israel, who started the match just one point behind the Scots in Group F, twice took the lead, but first John McGinn, then Lyndon Dykes - who also missed a penalty - twice levelled before Manchester United’s McTominay capped the comeback with a last gasp equaliser bundled in from a corner.
Total Goal Minutes x Corners (settled at 2321)
Anyone buying in this market, that is made up by multiplying the total minutes goals are scored in by the total number of corners, would be hoping for a thrilling game with plenty of goals and corners, so a last minute goal from a corner will have been most welcome. Total Goal Minutes came in at 211, and there were 11 corners in all, giving a figure of 2321. Before the game the spread was set at 1225-1350, so buyers banked 971 times their bet.
Did France win the Nations League final against Spain?
They did, and in their usual way, allowing Spain to go ahead before mounting a comeback. Mikel Oyarzabal opened the scoring after 64 minutes, but Spain could only stay ahead for two minutes, Karim Benzema curling in a sumptuous equaliser. Both sides pushed for a winner, and the extra quality of the French frontline told, Kylian Mbappe slotting home 10 minutes from times. Earlier, Italy beat Belgium 2-1 in the third-place play-off.
Mbappe Goal Minutes (settled at 80)
While no one really knows what the Nations League is or what you get for winning it, the actual games in Italy have been superb. France came from behind in both their semi-final against Belgium and the final against Spain, and the driving force behind their never say die attitude was Kylian Mbappe. He scored the equaliser in the 3-2 Belgium win and the winner against Spain last night, coolly slotting home a goal that VAR might have disallowed on other occasions. That 80th minute goal meant a profit of 61 times their bet for buyers, with the pre-match spread at 16-19.
Where was the best horse racing action this weekend?
The big race meeting of the weekend was at Newmarket, where Native Trail was the odds-on favourite for the Dewhurst Stakes, and he ran like one, cementing his reputation as one of the most exciting horses around. As soon as William Buick asked him to go, he went, leaving a top quality field in his wake to win by two lengths. Native Trail is already the favourite for next year’s 2000 Guineas.
Buick looked like he was going to claim a quickfire double in the Cesarewitch when he went clear on Burning Victory, but champion jockey Oisin Murphy on the grey 8/1 shot Buzz found that bit extra when it mattered.
Buzz 50/30/20/10 (settled at 50)
Our race indices award 50 points for 1st place, 30 for 2nd, 20 for 3rd and 10 for 4th. Buzz went off with a spread of 8-11, meaning buyers copped 39 times their stake as the grey showed great heart to just get up and take the Cesarewitch.
Did the Tyson Fury v Deontay Wilder trilogy fight live up to the hype?
Did it ever. In one of the best fights for many a year, Fury beat Wilder again with an exhilarating, bullying display of power and skill, but not before he’d twice been knocked down himself. The Gypsy King looked on the verge of finishing it in the third round when he knocked the challenger down for the first time with huge right, but, having made it to the bell, the Bronze Bomber, despite never seeming to fully recover, threw some big shots of his own to knock Fury down twice. Fury took over from then though, and it was a matter of when not if he knocked out the brave but ultimately limited Wilder in the 11th round.
Fight Minutes (settled at 32)
Predictions of a third-round knockout from Fury’s camp almost came true, but knowing that defeat, especially as early knockout, might be the end of his career, Wilder showed great heart to pick himself up and get right back into the fight. The end looked like it was coming from then on, but the Bronze Bomber still looked dangerous whenever he connected, though Fury was wearing him down more and more. By the 11th round, Wilder was behind on all cards and needed a knockout, but he just didn’t have the power by that stage, and the Gypsy King finished it oof in style with a right to side of the head. Fight Minutes had been set at 22-23.5, so Wilders bravery and heart made sure buys won 8.5 times their wager.
Is Emma Raducanu back in action at Indian Wells?
Emma Raducanu came back down to earth with a bump, losing her first match since her US Open victory, going down in straight sets to Aliaksandra Sasnovich at Indian Wells. The 18-year-old British number one had gone from qualifier at Flushing Meadows to bookies’ favourite to win this WTA event, known as the 5th Major, but her Belarussian opponent was too good. Sasnovich won 6-2 6-4, the first time Raducanu had lost a set since she lost the final of a Challenger event to Clara Tauson in Chicago in August. Raducanu heads to Russia for the Kremlin Cup next week.
Game Superiority Sas/Rad (settled at 6)
Raducanu went into this match as hot favourite, not a position she’s particularly used to, and it was understandable there was a bit of ‘after the Lord Mayor’s show’ about her first appearance since that US Open win. The Games Superiority spread was set at 2.5-3.5 in the Brit’s favour, meaning sellers, predicting Raducanu would struggle on her return, made 8.5 times their bet.
Did Gerwyn Price complete his stroll to the World Grand Prix victory?
The Iceman was odds-on to retain his World Grand Prix title at the Morningside Arena in Leicester, but fellow Welshman Jonny Clayton played out of his skin to thrash Price 5-1 and take the £110,000 first prize. The standard of darts was at the level you’d hope for a final, Clayton doubling in at an amazing 63% and hitting five ton-plus checkouts, including a maximum 170 followed by a 164 in the next leg when Price had 24 left for a 10-darter. Premier League champ Clayton sealed victory with a 116 checkout and after six straight losses against his 2020 World Cup winning partner, a first ranking success was his.
Clayton Ton-Ups (settled at 212)
The Ton-Ups markets total the number of points over 100 for each checkout, so Clayton Ton-Ups was a great buy given his finishing in the final. Clayton’s spread in this market was 51-57, so buyers made 155 times their money. On the flip side, Price’s spread was 56-62 and was settled at 2!
Who won the Turkish Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen?
For once neither of the Championship front runners, Hamilton or Verstappen, took the chequered flag. Valtteri Bottas took advantage of Hamilton’s grid penalty and tyre problems, and comfortably held off Verstappen’s challenge, though Verstappen’s 2nd place, three ahead of Hamilton, moved him back to the top of the Championship standings, six points clear with six races to go.
Bottas Race Index (settled at 100)
The Race Index awards points depending on finishing position, with 100 for 1st, 80 for 2nd, 60 for 3rd, 40 for 4th, 30 for 5th, 25 for 6th, 20 or 7th, 15 for 8th, 10 for 9th and 5 for 10th. Bottas started with a spread of 60-65, meaning buyers pocketed 35 times their stake.
Have the IPL play-offs started?
Chennai Super Kings are in the IPL final after beating Delhi Capitals in the play-off qualifier between the season’s top two teams. Delhi (10-4) finished top of the table, but will now have to play the winner of today’s play-of eliminator to try and take their second chance and the chance to get revenge on Chennai, who finished 2nd in the table with a 9-5 record. This match was a thriller, Chennai chasing down 173 with two balls to spare thanks to the late cameo of MS Dhoni, who finally found some form with the bat to whack 18 off six balls to see his side into Friday’s final.
Gaikwad Performance (settled at 80)
Ruturaj Gaikwad has been one of the stars of this year’s IPL with the bat, and he moved past 600 runs for the season, second only to KL Rahul, by top scoring with 70 to set the foundation for the Chennai win. Buyer of Gaikwad’s performance, set at 32-36, pocketed 54 times their bet, as he added a catch to his vital innings.
Who won Super League’s Grand Final?
Saint Helens were victorious for the third year in a row at Old Trafford, but the result was in the balance all the way to the final buzzer as Catalans Dragons came up just short. The French side pipped Saints to the League Leaders’ Shield, but despite going 10-6 up in the second half, they couldn’t hold off their more experienced opponents. Kevin Naiqama, playing his last game for Saint Helens, scored both tries in a 12-10 win, Mike McMeeken the only Dragon to touch down. Saints won their 8th Grand Final to go level all time with Leeds.
Match Cross-Points (settled at 120)
After these two sides played out a 31-30 thriller at the Magic Weekend, neutrals were hoping the Grand Final would be an open, high scoring affair, but with so much on the line, perhaps the tense, arm wrestle of a game was to be expected. Those who saw this coming will have sold in the Match Cross-Points market that is made up of first half points multiplied by second half. Sellers made 140 times their bet with the spread set at 260-288. For comparison, that Magic Weekend clash had a Match Cross-Points total of 864.
