Spreadex Market Update

Asian shares were up overnight

Asian shares were up overnight, nearing three-year highs on positive Chinese manufacturing PMI figures. The Nikkei was up 1.4% whilst the MSCI index of Asia-Pacific shares overcame earlier losses. Higher than expected US pending home sales seemingly failed to impress, the dollar trading close to seven-week lows as doubts about the US recovery continue, following weak growth data last week. Gold hit a two and a half month high overnight as tensions over Eastern Europe and the Middle East continued to grow, also boosted by the weakness of the dollar.

The German DAX Index opened strongly on positive expectations of European manufacturing PMI and unemployment figures to be released later this morning. This afternoon will see manufacturing data from the US and the Secretary of the US Treasury speaking at the US-China Business Council.
