Spreadex Market Update

Strong gains in Europe

Risk assets have closed out a day of strong gains in Europe, helped by positive data points from both sides of the Atlantic. The Dow is currently on course to break its highest ever closing level, now trading at 14,277.

But this observation can be taken with a generous pinch of salt and tempered with reality. Priced in Gold, for example, the Dow is almost half of what it was in 2007; owing to such significant dollar weakness verses the yellow metal. Inflation, too, is not provided for when glamorising today’s prices.

Importantly, observing just how weak fiat currencies have become allows for recognition of the impact the world’s central banks have had on markets. But rather than fight them, it is those that instead have allowed for any such distortions that have profited. For now, at least, the liquidity taps flow freely.
