Spreadex Market Update

Euro markets open largely unchanged

European markets have opened largely unchanged from overnight sessions, with Asian benchmarks remaining stable.

The FTSE 100 is currently flat. The euro remains strong at $1.3375 as flows into euro denominated securities continue.

The central theme dominating the market outside of known macroeconomic risks is indeed money flow.

The beginning of this month saw the largest net flows into equities since ’08, a strong vote of confidence for the notion that a large rotation from bonds into stocks could be about to happen.

If investors can perceive a market confident at the absence of bad news, then risk assets could perform well as a result.

Traders will turn to inflation figures due to be posted at 13.30 GMT from the U.S. for guidance as to where investors might allocate cash next, potentially providing the day’s main source of volatility against which to trade.

Take note of gold prices, currently at $1,680 for Feb delivery.
