Spreadex Market Update

Asian stocks advance

Asian stocks have advanced for the first time in 3 days after the International Monetary Fund raised its forecast for Japanese growth. Better than expected new-home construction data in the U.S. also helps support the gains seen in Asia overnight. Toyota Motor Corp., the world’s largest carmaker, advanced 1.3 percent as a weakening yen boosted the earnings outlook for exporters.

Global policymakers are preparing for meetings in Washington this week to discuss the unprecedented monetary policy easing along with the carefully considered plan needed to wean the world off super cheap funds. The G20 finance ministers and central bankers would probably confirm a February pledge to avoid competitive currency devaluations.

After the sharp sell of experienced in the markets over the last few sessions, combined with strong data out of the U.S. yesterday, risk assets have rebounded. Investors’ appetites were boosted by strong American corporate earnings and by data pointing to on-going U.S. monetary stimulus.
