Spreadex Market Update

Asian stocks fell overnight

Federal Reserve policy makers announced they are “broadly comfortable” with Chairman Ben Bernanke’s plan to taper this year if the economy strengthens. Some policy makers considered reducing the bond buying program sooner rather than later but failed to give us an exact time this could happen. Almost all committee members agreed that a change to the program was not appropriate in the current climate but would be needed soon.

Asian stocks fell overnight, heading for the longest losing streak since November after comments from the Federal Reserve meeting minutes. Although we are still left in the dark to when the Fed will be reducing their program, we do know is that it is imminent and will most likely happen this year. The support for tapering has given investors an excuse to dump risky assets. Asian shares did pare some of their losses overnight after signs of a recovery in China’s manufacturing sector helped offset the comments from the Fed.
