US markests react positivley



Stocks and other risk assets have pushed higher this afternoon after US markets reacted positively to comments from Mario Draghi that gave an indication that there were some members, but not many, were in favour of a rate cut in the Eurozone.

Before the press conference there were hopes for some decisive action this time around, however rates were kept on hold at 1%, but the slight possibility of a cut in Europe combined with the prospect of additional stimulus from the US after last Friday’s dismal employment data has been enough to induce another phase of buying ahead of tomorrow’s speech by Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke.

Given that the benchmark interest rate in the US is already at a record low spread bettors are looking at signs from Bernanke that there will be a third round of quantitative easing
