Spreadex Market Update

European bourses are trading in the red

European bourses are trading in the red heading into the afternoon session with the FTSE down 65 and the DAX down 19 as Scotland weighs in on markets 10 days ahead of the final vote. A poll over the weekend saw a dramatic turn in events where 51 percent of votes were in favour of Scotland breaking away from the UK. The results of the poll hammered sterling, falling dramatically to hit lows of $1.6102. Investors will need to keep a close eye on the uncertainties linked to the Scotland Referendum over the following 10 days.

The economic calendar is relatively quiet this afternoon with no pieces of notable data set to be released. Investors should be aware of Bank of England Governor Mark Carney who is set to speak in Liverpool tomorrow morning where high levels of volatility are often seen as traders seek clues on any further policy changes.

The Dow Jones is looking to follow suit with bourses in Europe as the futures point towards a negative open, currently down 40 points from Fridays close.
