Andrew Mount's Racing Tips 12.02.24

Andrew successfully opposed TRELAWNE (last of three) on Sunday and has two recommended bets/trades on Monday, February 12th.

CATTERICK 3.30

GAVIN SHEEHAN has received plenty of plaudits for his riding this season and deservedly so, but he’s had several shockers at Catterick where he has failed to adjust to the track bias. It’s been a huge advantage to race wide on the hurdles course, avoiding the ‘swamp’ on the rail, but Sheehan likes to hug the inside and his six mounts over timber have been turned over at odds of 4-5 (2nd), 5-6 (4th), 11-10 (4th), 3-1 (2nd), 11-2 (6th) and 14-1 (6th). MILLDAM is flying high in the betting for this 1m7.5f handicap hurdle but his two wins have come when fresh (after breaks of 77 and 51 days) and it’s possible that this race, 30 days after last month’s Wetherby fourth, will come too soon even if his jockey races wide on what is usually the better ground. Sell in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market. Fixed odds punters might want to side with FOR PLEASURE, 7-2 with Spreadex at the time of writing.

Recommendation: Oppose MILLDAM in Catterick 3.30

WOLVERHAMPTON 7.00

The Marco Botti-trained MAREFUORI was beaten by more than ten lengths when fourth of five in a soft-ground 1m2f handicap at Nottingham last time but failed to settle on unsuitably slow going and will be happier back on Tapeta in this 9.4f handicap. His trainer has a fine record when switching one of his runners from turf to Tapeta and the three-year-old’s previous two runs at today’s venue resulted in a course and distance success and a narrow second over the 8.6f trip. The son of Australia has been gelded over the winter and Botti is four from ten with turf-to-Wolverhampton switchers who were having their start since a gelding operation (+£14.00 to a £1 level stake at SP), including three of the last four. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.

Recommendation: Back MAREFUORI in Wolverhampton 7.00
