Andrew Mount's Racing Tips
Andrew made a good profit with his buy of SILVER SAMURAI (40-1 third) on Thursday and has three recommended bets/trades on Friday, October 18th.
KNIGHT OF ALLEN is high up on the list of my horses to follow this jumps season but the Jane Williams-trained four-year-old might need this comeback effort ahead of a possible tilt at the Greatwood Hurdle at Cheltenham next month. That could leave the way clear for the odds-on favourite WADE OUT, a point-to-point winner who maintained his 100% record when scoring comfortably in a Market Rasen bumper in the spring, but I’d rather take a chance on Harry Derham’s SONIFICATION. The six-year-old makes his stable debut after a mammoth 723-day absence but it’s interesting that his connections have persevered, he won on his racecourse debut back in April 2022 and Derham has a fantastic record at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other trainers. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back SONIFICATION in Uttoxeter 1.35
HYPERFOCUS can’t have the ground deep enough and with Haydock’s going described as ‘heavy’ after the track survived an inspection for waterlogging yesterday it’s going to be a real war of attrition. Tim Easterby’s veteran finished a solid 50-1 sixth of 21 in a heritage handicap on soft ground at York last time but will be happier back at today’s venue where he’s won on four occasions. His full course record stands at 1131751298 (4-10), improving to 1118 (3-4) on ground rated as soft or heavy by Proform. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 or take a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back HYPERFOCUS in Haydock 4.05
RATAFIA was only sixth of 14 at Leicester last time but his high draw (stall 13, once adjusted for the non-runners) made life difficult and it was a respectable effort in the circumstances, despite the wide margin of defeat. He met all the trouble going when beaten by just over three lengths into ninth of 15 over course and distance on his penultimate start. The form of the Michael Herrington yard is of some concern, but he has the best of the draw in stall 1 and is worth a small interest. Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back RATAFIA in Redcar 4.12
