Andrew Mount's Racing Tips
Andrew found well-backed Brighton winner WALEYFA (5-2) on Tuesday and has three recommended bets/trades at York on day 1 of the Ebor festival (Wednesday, August 21st).
Day one of York’s Ebor Festival looks ultra-competitive and a buy of STARTING PRICES with Spreadex could pay dividends. The opening sprint handicap has produced winners at 20-1, 18-1, 18-1 and 14-1 in the past ten years and it will be disappointing if the winner doesn’t start at double-figure odds, while we could get a boil-over in the Acomb (2.25), a race that has a history of shocks. The market is dominated by RULING COURT and THE LION IN WINTER but with Godolphin’s debut winners often disappointing next time out and Aidan O’Brien having sent out 15 straight losers in this race since taking the 2000 renewal with an 8-13 chance, we could be in for another surprise result. Irish Derby winner LOS ANGELES is a short price in the Great Voltigeur (3.00) but has had to concede weight all round and last time out winners are just two from 31 in the past ten years. CITY OF TROY is a skinny price in the Juddmonte International (3.35) but he was workmanlike when landing the Coral-Eclipse and now takes on his elders on ground faster than ideal. The card ends with a trio of competitive handicaps, and, with luck, we’ll have the spread covered with one or two to play.
Recommendation: Buy YORK SPs
DIVINE MELODY has a phenomenal recent record in handicap company, recording form figures of 1321311313312 (6-13) since the start of the 2022 season. The ground might be a shade faster than ideal for the Harry Eustace-trained six-year-old but it will be desperately disappointing if she doesn’t hit the frame in this 2m handicap and she rates a buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market.
Recommendation: back DIVINE MELODY in York 4.10
At the age of six, ALCAZAN is the oldest horse in this valuable 5f fillies’ handicap, but she arrives here in great form after wins over 5f at Ascot and 6f at Brighton and is taken to complete her hat-trick. Roger Teal’s mare has options form her middle draw (stall 8 of 14) if any straight-track bias is evident by this point and she hasn’t had many opportunities over the minimum trip, recording form figures of 231 (1-3). Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back ALCAZAN in York 4.45
Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
