Andrew heads to the meetings at Lingfield and Carlisle for his two recommended bets/trades on Thursday, May 30th.

LINGFIELD 4.00

Heather Main’s ASH WEDNESDAY is drawn on the outside of the field for this 6f handicap but the three-year-old has been given a mark of just 50 ahead of his handicap debut and could have plenty in hand of his 13 rivals. The gelded son of Outstrip finished a promising 80-1 fifth in a Windsor maiden on his second start and the four that beat him are now rated 75, 63, 58 and 75. The sixth from that Windsor race – Perianth – landed a gamble (7-1, from 18-1) at Leicester earlier this week when taking a handicap off 62 and Ash Wednesday’s yard has a good record with handicap debutants on the Flat (turf and all-weather), scoring with 13 of the 87 qualifiers for a profit of £59.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or take a fixed odds price.

Recommendation: Back ASH WEDNESDAY in Lingfield 4.00

CARLISLE 6.55

It’s easy to conclude that Hugo Palmer’s IT AIN’T TWO, a debut winner at Newmarket and beaten by the draw when only mid-division at York next time, will comfortably land this 6f restricted novice contest under a penalty but she’s racing on soft ground for the first time in her short career and the value lies with Karl Burke’s GREEK GIFT, the outsider of the entire field. She finished a respectable 12-1 fifth of ten at Redcar 48 hours ago and her trainer does well in restricted novice company with experienced runners, scoring with 24 of the 72 qualifiers for a profit of £94.07. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.

Recommendation: Back GREEK GIFT in Carlisle 6.55
