Daily Spread Betting Round-up
Aston Villa reach the Carabao Cup final, Leeds return to the top of the Championship and Simona Halep strolls into the Australian Open semis – it’s the Daily Spread Betting Roundup. But how much could you have won? Villa stun the Foxes – Aston Villa v LeicesterThey might be in danger of relegation, and already out of the FA Cup, but Aston Villa are having a whale of a time in the Carabao Cup. Yes, they were fortunate that Liverpool fielded a bunch of kids in the quarter-finals – however, nothing can take away from them going the distance against Leicester. A 1-1 draw in the 1st leg left things perfectly poised for a dramatic night at Villa Park. And it delivered. The hosts were ahead after just 12 minutes, meaning anyone who sold a 1st Villa Goal spread of 58-61 made 46 times their starting stake. Villa clung onto that lead until the 72 minute, when Kelechi Iheanacho – who has stepped up during Jamie Vardy’s drought – got the Foxes an equaliser. With a minute or so left of injury time it looked like penalties were incoming. Then substitute Trezeguet drilled home the winner, sending Villa to Wembley exactly a decade on from their last EFL Cup final appearance. More importantly, buying the Egyptian at his sub PGM spread of 4-7 netted you 83 times your initial bet. The thrilling last-gasp nature of the hosts’ victory also meant backing Aston Villa to win at a binary of 0.5-4.4 in the game’s dying moments left you with 95.6 times your original stake. Swap at the top – Leeds v MillwallIt looked like Leeds were about to blow it again. Yet to pick up a league victory in 2020, the Whites quickly went 2-0 down at home to Millwall, a side peering into the play-off zone from the outside. But Patrick Bamford sparked a comeback at the start of the 2nd half, followed by a Pablo Hernandez equaliser just after the hour mark. Bamford completed his brace minutes later, giving Leeds the win and anyone who bought the 26-year old at a SMM spread of 29-35 a handy 145 times their initial stake courtesy of a 180 make-up. Crucially, the fact West Brom – also without a league victory this year – lost to Cardiff meant Leeds returned to the top of the Championship. Halep saunters into semis – Anett Kontaveit v Simona HalepIn her most dominant performance of the competition so far – and that’s saying something given she is yet to drop a set – Simona Halep beat Anett Kontaveit 6-1 6-1 to reach her 2nd ever Aussie Open semi-final. Buying a Halep/Kontaveit Game Supremacy spread of 1.3-2.3, then, won you 7.7 times your starting bet. You’d have needed to sell a Total Games spread of 22.5-23.5, however, to make 8.5 times your initial stake.
