Daily Spread Betting Round-up
Who won the moneybags match between Manchester City and PSG?
Manchester City came from behind to secure a deserved 2-1 win over PSG and with it qualify for the last 16 as group winners for the 5th straight season. After a first half dominated by the home side, PSG took a surprise lead soon after the break through Kylian Mbappe, but City deservedly hit back. First of all Raheem Sterling just managed to stretch to get a telling touch on a Kyle Walker volleyed cross, then substitute Gabriel Jesus put the finishing touch to a delightful move which saw Bernardo Silva provide a sumptuous assist. City travel to RB Leipzig in their final game with nothing to play for in a match that will be played behind closed doors because of rising Covid rates in Germany.
Rodri Performance (settled at 147)
While the attacking players from both sides take most of the attention, defensive midfielder Rodri was again in fine form for City, and buyers of his performance made a tidy profit. The Performance market awards 25 points for a goal, 10 for an assist, 10 for hitting the woodwork, 5 for a shot on target, 5 for a blocked shot inside the six yard box, 2 for a shot off target, 3 for a free-kick won and 2 for a completed pass in the opposition half. Rodri’s 147 was head and shoulders above the other players quoted, with Mbappe (68), Messi (58) and Neymar (48) and City’s next best, Gundogan (99), Silva (90) and Sterling (87) all trailing in his wake. Rodri’s spread was set at 84-90, meaning buyers won 57 times their bet.
Did Liverpool keep up their Champions League winning streak?
The relentless Reds kept up their 100% record in this season’s competition despite making a number of changes having already got top spot and qualification for the knockouts sewn up. Thiago Alcantara and Mo Salah scored the goals that gave Liverpool a 2-0 win over Porto, who despite losing again are still in second place and have qualification in their own hands. Salah’s goal, his 17th in 17 games this season, meant Liverpool have scored at least two goals in 16 consecutive games.
Shirts x Bookings (settled at 680)
This market is made up of total booking points (10 for a yellow card, 25 for a red) multiplied by goalscorer shirt numbers. Liverpool got two goals in a game with four bookings, giving 17 x 40, settling this market at 680. Before the match, with more goals and less discipline expected, the spread was set at 2000-2250, so sellers, who expected this kind of efficient performance, made 1320 times their stake.
Were there any shocks in the UK Championship snooker first round?
Just about all of the big names, including Ronnie O’Sullivan, made in through, but the most eye catching performance came from Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, who knocked out seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry 6-1. The Thai pro posed five century breaks in winning the six frames required to make round 2, just the 4th time a player has scored five centuries in a best of 11 match, after Fergal O’Brien, Judd Trump and Matt Selt.
Un-Nooh Ton or Bust (settled at 578)
This market aggregates all the breaks of 100 or more, but doesn’t count anything less than three figures. So if a player scored 99 and 101 in consecutive frames, the Ton or Bust results would be 101, with the first break counting for nothing. Un-Nooh put on what Hendry called a ‘clinic in break building’ on the way to his amazing five centuries, and with his spread set at 106-121, he rewarded buyers, who made a profit of 457 times their stake.
