What was the biggest game in the Premier League this past weekend?

Arguably the biggest game of the Premier League weekend was at the foot of the table, where Norwich thumped Watford 3-0 away from home on Friday. The result, and the comprehensive nature of it, could have a massive influence on the rest of the season and ultimately who starts next season in the Championship and who survives. If Watford had won, as they were favourites to do, they would have moved four points clear of the relegation zone, leaving Norwich, Newcastle and Burnley feeling like the three unwelcome guests at the party. Norwich’s win though moves them two clear of Watford and the relegation zone, though they have played two more games than Watford and Newcastle and five more than Burnley!

Josh Sargent Super Mega Minutes (settled at 199)

Sargent was a major influence on this game, opening the scoring with a deft close range finish, and doubling that lead as Watford looked to get back into the game with a towering far post header. The 21-year-old American hadn’t scored in the Premier League before Friday’s game, and his Super Mega Minutes spread – a goal minutes bet that doubles the minutes of a 2nd goal and trebles those of a 3rd – was set at just 6-9, meaning buyers won 190 times their stake.

What else happened in the Premier League?

Every weekend Spreadex runs a series of combined markets on all of the TV games together. With special markets like Fastest Goal and Fastest Booking plus markets combining the totals in the four games, like Goals Cubed and Goals x Corners. The biggest spread and make-ups in these specials is generally the Corner Bonanza, which multiplies the total corner kicks from each game together.

Bookings x Corners (settled at 8800)

This market is made up of the total bookings points multiplied by the total corners in the four TV games on Saturday and Sunday – Everton v Aston Villa, Southampton v Man City, Crystal Palace v Liverpool and Chelsea v Tottenham. The market was settled at 8800, (90+30+50+30) x (11+13+7+13). With the spread set at 6250-6950, buyers made a profit of 1850 times their stake.

What happened in the NFL play-offs this weekend?

In a weekend of unbelievably close games, the first three divisional round games were decided by a last second field goal as time expired, before Kansas City claimed an amazing 42-36 overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills. The Chiefs needed a field goal to send the game to the extra period after a thrilling last two minutes that saw the lead change hands three times. Kansas City will now host the AFC Championship game for a record 4th year running, welcoming the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, while the LA Rams host the San Francisco 49ers, knowing if they win they will become just the 2nd team ever to play a home Super Bowl, a feat achieved by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year.

Gabriel Davis Super Mega Minutes (settled at 355)

In a rematch of last season’s AFC Championship game, superstar quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen traded blows, both throwing five touchdowns in a memorable slugfest. Gabriel Davis had a play-off record four receiving touchdowns for the Bills but it proved in vain as Mahomes got the hosts within kicking range despite having just 13 seconds to play with, Harrison Butker slotting over the field goal from 49 yards, before Kansas won the toss to start overtime and scored another TD – Mahomes finding Travis Kelce in the endzone – to win the game without Allen getting the chance to get back on the pitch. Davis’s four TDs did matter for buyers of his Super Mega Minutes however, with the spread set at 13-17. SMM doubles the TD minutes of a 2nd score and trebles that of a 3rd, giving buyers a profit of 338 times their bet.
