Tuesday's Big Winning Bets

Tuesday night was a night of dramatic sporting action as Brentford clinched a point in the dying minutes at Crystal Palace, while Fulham continued their fine start to the season by beating in-form Brighton, before the last action of the night resulted in a shock first-round exit for defending US Open champion Emma Raducanu.

However, who were the big winners and what markets brought punters the most joy?

We review Tuesday’s action and highlight where canny punters could have struck gold on our spread betting markets.

Please remember that unlike fixed odds betting, when spread betting losses can exceed deposits.

CRYSTAL PALACE V BRENTFORD – SHIRTS X BOOKINGS (SETTLED AT 660)

The first action of the night came at Selhurst Park as Crystal Palace hosted Brentford in a London derby with both sides having impressed in the opening four games.

Despite both of last season’s meetings ending goalless there was optimism that this fixture could buck this trend and the home fans weren’t disappointed as Wilfried Zaha opened the scoring in the 59th minute as he expertly finished past Brentford’s helpless goalkeeper David Raya to give the hosts a deserved lead.

However, Palace were pegged back in the 88th minute as a Yoane Wissa header snatched a point at the death for Thomas Frank’s side, who have now come from behind to earn a point in three out of five games this season!

But where was the value for our punters?

With both goal scorers donning the number 11 shirt numbers tallied up to 22 and with only three bookings in the match booking points only racked up to 30 meaning shirts x bookings made up at 660 (22 x 30 = 660).

With traders expecting a much feistier London derby a pre-match spread of 1375-1550 was offered meaning punters who sold won 715x their initial stake!

FULHAM V BRIGHTON – MULTI-BOOKINGS (SETTLED AT 0)

The next bit of action continued just a few miles down the road from Selhurst Park as Fulham hosted Graham Potter’s in-form Brighton.

The game was very much a game of two halves where the first half saw little to no action with neither a goal being scored, or a booking being given. However, the second half was very much the opposite with Aleksandar Mitrovic continuing his great form in front of goal - giving the hosts the lead just three minutes into the second half - before Brighton captain Lewis Dunk doubled the home side’s advantage with an own goal just seven minutes later.

Brighton fought back and earned themselves a penalty on the hour, which Alexis Mac Allister converted to score his second penalty in just three games. However, this wasn’t enough as Fulham held out to hand Brighton their first defeat of the season.

Although there were three bookings in the second half, the value in the match was found in the Multi-Bookings market as the well-mannered first half ensured the market made up at 0 (0 X 30 = 0).

With a pre-match spread of 310-390 being offered, those who decided to sell won a victorious 310x their initial stake!

RADUCANU V CORNET – SET 2 CROSS POINTS

The final action of the day came from Queen’s, New York as defending champion Emma Raducanu suffered a shock first-round shock exit to Alize Cornet in straight sets, with the Frenchwoman booking her spot in the next round!

Cornet, who was competing in her 63rd consecutive grand slam, took control of the encounter early on with a dominating opening set performance – winning it 6-3.

The British No. 1 racked up double-digit unforced errors and showed some of the recent shaky form which put her ranking in jeopardy as Cornet won the second set 6-3 as well to ensure that Raducanu’s defence of her maiden grand slam lasted less than two hours!

But where was the value for bettors?

With the punters predicting a much closer second set between the pair, a pre-match spread of 1097-1172 was offered for the Set 2: Cross Points market. However, with Cornet dominating the set, the market made up at 713, meaning those who decided to sell won 384x their stake!

Please note that these are recent examples of winning bets, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
