WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Grimsby Town were the stars of the last few days as they made it to the quarter finals of the FA Cup for the first time since the 1930s. They will be joined there by fellow EFL sides Burnley, Blackburn, and Sheffield United, with the latter two set to meet at Bramall Lane.

Elsewhere, Australia bounced back to beat India in Indore and England took a 1-0 series lead over Bangladesh in the 50-over format.

It was a quieter week on the sporting front, but that doesn’t mean there was a lack of big winning spread bets with shrewd punters able to pick up wins in football, cricket, and golf over the last two days.

Please remember that unlike fixed odds betting, when spread betting losses can exceed deposits.

INDIA v AUSTRALIA 3rd TEST – NATHAN LYON BOWLER PERFORMANCE (SETTLED AT 135)

After two dominant performances in the opening two Tests of this four match series, India failed to make it three wins out of three as Australia won the third Test before lunch on day three.

With neither side excelling with the bat, it was the bowlers who had to step up to the plate and Australia’s Nathan Lyon extended his superb record against India with an 11 wicket haul across the two innings. The spinner from New South Wales country finished with figures of 8-64 in India’s second innings as Australia booked their place in the World Test Championship Final (where they could yet face India).

Before the match the Nathan Lyon Bowling Performance spread was 54-59, but earning ten points per wicket and a 25 point bonus for a five wicket haul, ‘Garry’s’ spread settled at 135 as buyers earned a win of 76x their stake.

SOUTHAMPTON v GRIMSBY – PENALTY GOAL MINUTES (SETTLED AT 95)

Three lower league sides knocked out Premier League opposition this week and whilst Blackburn and Sheffield United were far from favourites, the biggest upset came on the south coast as beleaguered Southampton were beaten by Grimsby.

The Mariners had knocked out Luton in the previous round and will travel to the south coast again in the quarter finals when they face Brighton. The League Two outfit progressed thanks to two Gavan Holohan penalties either side of half time. The first came from a Lyanco handball in the first minute of injury time (counts as 45 on the spread) and the second when Duje Caleta-Car caught Danilo Orsi with an arm in the 50th minute.

Holohan duly tucked both spot kicks away as the Penalty Goal Minutes spread settled at 95 against a pre-match spread of 13-16 with buyers claiming a win of 79x their stake.

ARNOLD PALMER INVITATIONAL – JON RAHM FIRST ROUND LEADER (SETTLED AT 80)

With the first of golf’s major championships just over a month away all eyes turned to Florida for the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The 2022 edition was won by Scottie Scheffler who would go on to win the Masters so there will be plenty of players looking to put in a good performance over the coming days.

However, one market has already settled and that is the First Round Leader spread which saw buyers on Jon Rahm’s spread of 5.5-7.5 win 72.5x their stake (80 points are awarded to the first round leader, with following positions earning a lesser amount). With six birdies and an eagle, the Spaniard’s only dropped shot came on the eighth to leave him two shots clear of Chris Kirk, Cameron Young and Kurt Kitayama.

Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
