Weekend Winning Bets

There was sport everywhere you looked this weekend with the Premier League and FA Cup both taking place alongside the final round of the Six Nations as France claimed the Grand Slam.

In the other code of rugby, Toulouse ripped up the form book as they defeated St Helens in a famous victory for Sylvain Houles’ outfit, and over in the Caribbean, Joe Root’s side were left frustrated again as they left Barbados with a drawn match.

With all that going on, there was plenty for punters to get stuck into, but where did the smart money go?

Please remember that unlike fixed odds betting, losses may exceed deposits when spread betting.

WOLVES v LEEDS UNITED SHIRTS x BOOKINGS (SETTLED AT 6205)

Molineux was the scene for an archetypal game of two halves on Friday evening as Leeds United overcame a 2-0 half-time deficit to secure a vital three points in their battle to avoid the drop.

With plenty of goals and cards being flashed, there were a couple of big winning spreads in this match, but the main one was undoubtedly Shirts x Bookings which is the aggregate of the scorers’ shirt numbers multiplied by the number of booking points.

Four of the five goals were scored by players who had a double-digit shirt number, though greedy punters would have perhaps hoped that Leeds’ last-minute winner had fallen to someone other than number 2 Luke Ayling. That said, they were still ahead of the line with a total of 73 shirts.

Kevin Friend did his side of the job for the other half of the market as he doled out 85 booking points including a maximum 35 to Wolves forward Raul Jimenez who was shown a second yellow early in the second half after a collision with Ilan Meslier. Nohan Kenneh also boosted the total by 10 points which is particularly impressive as he has never played a minute of football for Leeds but now has a booking to his name.

After all that action, the final market settled at 6205 against an initial spread of 1575-1750. Buyers therefore came home with a win equal to 4450x their stake.

WALES MULTI-POINTS (SETTLED AT 98)

There aren’t many results in international rugby that cause as much soul-searching and consternation as a home defeat against Italy, but that is exactly the predicament that the Welsh Rugby Union find themselves in after Saturday.

A converted Edoardo Padovani try in the last minute of play earned Italy a maiden win in Cardiff and heaped the pressure on Welsh coach Wayne Pivac. The defending champions were poor in possession and ill-disciplined out of it as they failed to accelerate away from the traditional whipping boys of top-class international rugby.

They went into the break 12-7 down and only managed to score 14 points in the second half, meaning that their Multi-Points market (first half points multiplied by second half points) settled at a meagre 98. Pre-match, the spread was set to 433-474, leaving sellers onverting a win equal to 335x their stake.

KRAIGG BRATHWAITE SUPER-MEGA RUNS (SETTLED AT 392)

As an England cricket fan, there can’t be many better away trips than an away series in the West Indies, but those who made the journey to the Kensington Oval in Barbados were left frustrated as the home side held on to claim a draw.

A big factor in the hosts’ resilience was Kraigg Brathwaite who led with the bat in both innings scoring 160 in the first and 56* in the second as backers of the Super-Mega Runs were in clover.

In this market, runs 1-50 count as normal, 51-100 count double and, 101+ count treble. After the first innings, the Brathwaite Super-Mega Runs market was at 330 and although he only managed to add 62 points in the second innings, buyers were still well up on the initial spread of 93-101 as they collected a win equal to 299x their stake.
