Domestic football in England and Scotland got underway this weekend and there were plenty of headlines from the opening weekend’s action as Leicester and Southampton got opening day wins whilst in League 2 three of the outright favourites all lost with Stockport, Notts County, and Wrexham conceding a combined 11 goals between them.

Elsewhere there was plenty of sport to get stuck into and we review three big winning bets from a bumper weekend.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAMEWEEK 1 – TOTAL 90TH MINUTE GOALS (SETTLED AT 3)

Ok we will hold our hands up and say this might not be the biggest win ever, but it will certainly be a market to keep an eye out for this season across the Premier League and Football League. Referees this season are being asked to add on more time for stoppages than before to more accurately reflect how long the ball is out of play and as we saw with Arsenal’s 101st minute equaliser yesterday, this can lead to late drama.

For most major football leagues, we offer a spread on Total 90th Minute Goals over a weekend and over the 12 Championship matches, the spread was 2.10-2.45. After Stoke and Norwich bagged goals after the clock struck 90, buyers headed into Sunday needing another late goal to make a profit and they secured that with Crysencio Summerville’s 95th minute strike as Leeds salvaged a point against Cardiff. As we said, a win for buyers of 0.65x their stake might not be the biggest but there are likelier to be bigger wins this season.

KENT v LEICESTERSHIRE – KEN/LEI (SETTLED AT -264)

If a win of 0.65x your stake doesn’t tickle your fancy, how about a win of 262x? Because that’s what sellers on the Kent/Leicestershire Supremacy managed to win. Whilst the glitz and glamour of The Hundred draws the headlines, the county game ploughs on in the background and Leicestershire managed to land a big win in the One Day Cup yesterday.

Batting first in Beckenham, the Foxes saw five players hit their half century in a sublime innings which saw them hit a score of 380-5 after their allotted overs. Chasing such a total down was always going to be a tall order for the hosts, but they will have been disappointed to only manage 116 all out inside 24 overs with Roman Walker taking six wickets for the visitors.

Before the match, the Supremacy was -2 – 6 but with Leicestershire winning by 264 runs, the spread settled at -264 as buyers won 262x their stake.

WALES v ENGLAND– ENGLAND MULTI-POINTS (SETTLED AT 0)

The Rugby World Cup gets underway next month and despite Steve Borthwick trying to put a positive spin on things, England were abysmal in defeat against Wales on Saturday. Both sides named experimental line-ups, but England struggled to fire in attack with plenty of unforced errors for the men in white.

Borthwick’s side actually managed to lead 9-6 at the break thanks to three converted penalties from Harlequins half Marcus Smith, but they failed to add to their tally in the second half as Wales ran out 20-9 winners in Cardiff.

With the visitors failing to register a point in the second half, England Multi-Points settled at zero against a pre-match spread of 191-220 as sellers won the maximum 191x their stake.

Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
