The weather tried its best to kill off all the sporting action and whilst Saturday’s feature meetings at Haydock and Ascot were cancelled, there was some good racing action to be had yesterday at Thurles with Fakir D’Oudairies amongst the winners across the Irish Sea.

In the football, Arsenal landed a massive blow to their rivals as they beat Manchester United courtesy of a 90th minute strike from Eddie Nketiah. At the other end of the table, David Moyes managed to get a win against his former club Everton, with the bottom seven separated by just three points.

With action everywhere you looked we have picked out three big winning spread bets from the weekend’s football, racing, and rugby union.

Please remember that unlike fixed odds betting, when spread betting losses can exceed deposits.

THURLES 22ND JANUARY – WINNING FAVOURITES (SETTLED AT 7)

Our new welcome offer includes a Winning Favourites spread bet and yesterday at Thurles would have been the perfect time to use it. Based on the number of SP favourite winners across the card, yesterday’s spread at Thurles was 3.6-3.9 as they went to post in the opening race of the day.

It was another weekend that had seen plenty of racing called off due to the freezing weather and Allegoire De Vassy almost caught Paul Townend cold at the first in the Grade 2 Mares Novice Chase, but ultimately the Willie Mullins hotpot won by 19 lengths from Brides Hill in second.

Fakir D’Oudaries won the next race and the next Grade 2 on the card at 7/4F before Strumptown (10/3F), and Belle The Lioness (2/7F) ensured buyers on Winning Favourites at 3.9 would be in clover for the day.

From there it was a case of how many favourites would buyers win by and the final three at the head of the market duly obliged, winning by a combined 57 ¼ lengths. A perfect seven on the day for the favourites and a perfect day for buyers on the Winning Favourites spread who won 3.1x their stake.

LEEDS UNITED v BRENTFORD – TOTAL GOAL MINUTES x CORNERS (SETTLED AT 0)

They say that the devil works hard, but the individual in charge of cropping up Match Of The Day highlights for Leeds’ clash with Brentford would have worked harder. It was a game almost completely devoid of action at Elland Road on Sunday as both sides cancelled each other out in a 0-0 thanks to some strong defensive performances and some disjointed attacking play.

Leeds are known for being leaky at the back but good going forwards, yet they mustered just five shots on target yesterday. Brentford for their part failed to make United keeper Ilan Meslier work at all.

Sellers on Total Goal Minutes x Corners at 1400-1525 would have been feeling pretty relaxed as the match wore on and as the full time whistle was blown to put both sets of teams and fans out of their misery, sellers would have rejoiced as they claimed a maximum win of 1400x their stake.

CHEETAHS v PAU – SCRABBLED SHIRTS (SETTLED AT 0)

If you haven’t been paying attention to European club rugby this season, you may have missed the fact that South African sides are in the competition and that a French side like Pau could travel to Italy to play an away match against a side from another continent and it be a completely normal occurrence.

That’s what we had at the weekend when the French outfit faced the Cheetahs from Bloemfontein in Parma in what effectively was a straight shootout to make the last-16 of the European Challenge Cup.

Tied at 3-3 following a scrappy first half, Thibault Debaes put the ‘visitors’ in front for the first time in the match after 47 minutes. However, Pau (for whom a draw would have been enough o send them through) couldn’t hold on as Siya Masuku levelled up the scores with a penalty before landing one with the last kick of the game to see the South Africans home 9-6.

The Scrabbled Shirts market is based on the scrabble score of all tryscorers in a match and before the action got underway in Parma, the spread was 130-149. As Elland Road lacked goals, so the Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi lacked tries and sellers on the Scrabbled Shirts market landed a maximum win of 130x their stake.

Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
