Weekend's Big Winning Bets

Jumby won the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes for Eve Johnson Houghton and William Buick whilst the two Group 3s in Ireland were split between Joseph O’Brien and father Aiden with Luxembourg hardly setting the world alight when winning by a neck after being sent off 2/9 favourite.

Whilst there was plenty of action on the track, the main betting focus of the last few days came in the football with Brentford’s thrashing of Manchester United one of the stories of the weekend.

With three days of action to review we pick out where canny punters could have struck gold on our spread betting markets.

Please remember that unlike fixed odds betting, when spread betting losses can exceed deposits.

WOLVES v FULHAM – GOALS x CORNERS x BOOKINGS (SETTLED AT 0)

If you can find a 0-0 draw then a sell on Goals x Corners x Bookings can pay dividends and that’s exactly what occurred at Molineux on Saturday as yo-yo supremos Fulham drew with Wolves.

The Midlands outfit look like they will struggle to score goals without a recognised striker, but they tested Marek Rodak twice in the first five minutes as Daniel Podence and Hwang Hee-Chan both fluffed their lines after being played in on goal.

The best chance of the game from open play fell to Morgan Gibbs-White who flashed a cross over the bar when he had the goal at his mercy, but it was Aleksandar Mitrovic who should have opened the scoring but the Serb’s penalty was well saved by Jose Sa.

That was the last of the goal mouth action but Mitrovic and Gibbs-White were lucky to still be on the pitch at full-time as they came head-to-head after a naughty challenge from the Fulham striker.

Despite the 60 booking points and the eight corners, no goals left the Goals x Corners x Bookings spread to settle at zero (priced at 1050-1750 before kick-off) as sellers collected a win of 1050x their stake.

HULL FC v ST HELENS – BEN DAVIES SUPER-MEGA MINUTES (SETTLED AT 199)

As seems to be the case every year at the MKM Stadium, Hull FC have tanked in the second half of the season and they face a real struggle to make the play-offs come the end of the season. The Black and Whites welcomed St Helens on Sunday and whilst Kristian Woolf’s side are by far the best side in the league, losing 60-6 is never a good look.

Brett Hodgson’s outfit have been on the wrong end of a few heavy defeats this season and they found themselves 26-6 down at half-time, despite taking the lead thanks to Leeds loanee Jack Walker.

If the home faithful thought things were going to get better they were swiftly proved wrong as Saints piled on the misery, romping home to a 14th straight victory over Hull FC and securing a semi-final spot in the process.

There were plenty of good performances for the Red Vee, but Ben Davies will have certainly enjoyed his afternoon with the Widnes academy product filling in on the wing for the visitors. He crossed for his first try just after half-time and made it a brace with two minutes left on the clock.

Before kick-off, the Super-Mega Minutes line for the 22-year-old was set at 16-19, but the former England youth international made a mockery of that as the spread settled at 199. Buyers were left raising a glass in his honour as they checked out with a win equal to 180x their stake.

SUSSEX v SURREY – SUSSEX/SURREY SUPREMACY (SETTLED AT 216)

Whilst the glitz, glamour and gimmicks of The Hundred continue to delight fans up and down the country, the ugly duckling of domestic cricket’s short format competitions continues to plug away in the background.

The One Day cup might not get the attention of some other tournaments but a capacity crowd at Hove was thrilled on Sunday as hosts Sussex defeated local rivals Surrey yesterday afternoon. India batsman Cheteshwar Pujara rattled off 174 runs for his second century in three days and Tom Clark weighed in on the action, scoring 104 to claim his maiden century in the format as the hosts reached 378/6.

Surrey have been gutted by The Hundred, but the youngsters who were left will have learned a lot from this defeat as they mustered 162 runs before being bowled out in the 32nd over. Before the match, Sussex were favoured on a Supremacy spread that was 8-16 before play.

With a winning margin of 216 runs, buyers were in the money as they landed a win of 200x their stake.

Cricket Supremacy bets are based on the margin of victory with one point awarded for each run a match is won by or ten points for each wicket a match is won by. If Surrey had won in the above Supremacy bet, then the spread would have settled at a negative value.

Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
