Daily Spread Betting Round-up
It was a weekend of massive scorelines as Liverpool and Celtic both racked up 9-0 wins whilst Montpellier beat Brest 7-0 in the French top-flight. Braga hit Arouca for six in Portugal, whilst Union Berlin and PSV both helped themselves to 6-1 victories.
Elsewhere, Australia beat South Africa in The Rugby Championship whilst New Zealand’s slump continued as the All Blacks were beaten by Argentina on home soil for the first time in their history. In the 13-man code, Salford secured their play-off place and St Helens won the League Leaders’ Shield despite being beaten by Wakefield.
There was also action in the cricket and racing and we have ran our eye through the scores and results across the UK and beyond to bring you three big winning spread bets from the weekend.
Please remember that unlike fixed odds betting, when spread betting losses can exceed deposits.
SUPER LEAGUE SUNDAY AND MONDAY GROUP – TRYSCORERS SHIRTS (SETTLED AT 1249)
It was a Super League round that was bookended by tries from local boy Harvey Barron for Hull FC and Aussie import Samisoni Langi for Catalans, but there was a whole bunch of tries in between.
With this round of fixtures falling just days after tired teams last played, head coaches across the league decided that now was the time to rotate their squads ahead of the play-offs. In doing so, plenty of youngsters and lesser spotted stars got a run out over the bank holiday weekend.
Hull FC were first up and they despatched relegated Toulouse in routine fashion as they romped to a 38-12 victory. The high scoring game on Sunday was a sign of things to come on Monday. Warrington Wolves saw Matt Dufty (shirt number 36) score four tries with Josh Lynch (40) and Jake Wardle (34) also crossing in defeat to Huddersfield.
Salford secured their play-off place with a thumping 50-10 win away at Castleford, Deon Cross (28) was the pick of the shirts for buyers in that clash. On the banks of the Humber, Zack Fishwick (34) and Will Tate (28) scored for Hull KR as they beat a Wigan side whose five tryscorers all wore double-digit shirts.
There was another four-try haul in Wakefield’s defeat of St Helens thanks to flying winger Lewis Murphy (27) and in the south of France, Leeds were beaten by Catalans with Melbourne-bound Joe Chan (27) getting on the scoresheet for the hosts.
With so many points and so many high-numbered shirts scoring tries, this was a weekend for the buyers. Before kick-off in Hull on Sunday the line was 752-772 and by full-time in Perpignan, the market settled at 1249 as buyers won 477x their stake.
BREST v MONTPELLIER – MATCH SUPREMACY (SETTLED AT -7)
Despite resounding wins for Celtic and Liverpool, the big supremacy win in the top European leagues came in France as Montpellier secured a famous away win at Brest. Heading into the match, Brest were slight favourites and the supremacy line was priced accordingly at 0.45-0.65 in their favour.
Four goals in the first 25 minutes soon obliterated Montpellier’s underdog tags, with former Sunderland man Wahbi Khazri bagging the visitors’ third goal in just the 11th minute.
Elye Wahi slotted home his brace in the 31st minute and at 5-0, the hosts could be forgiven for thinking that things could not get any worse. How wrong they were. Pierre Lees-Melou was sent off for a high challenge after five minutes in the second half and the side from Occitania added two more with Valere Germain scoring a double.
The 7-0 win for Montpellier left the market to settle at -7 with sellers landing a win of 7.45x their initial stake. Similar positions favouring Liverpool and Celtic would have netted 6.7x and 6.25x respectively.
SATURDAY 27TH AUGUST 13:35 CURRAGH – ASPEN GROVE 50-25-10 (SETTLED AT 50)
There were three Group 3 races on Saturday at the Curragh with favourite Treasure Trove winning the Round Tower Stakes and Viareggio winning the Snow Fairy Stakes.
The first of the higher-class affairs came in the second race as eight went to post for the Flame of Tara Stakes and there was an upset in the offing. Paddy Twomey and Billy Lee teamed up on favourite Shelton (also the duo behind Treasure Trove), but the favourite never really got going and having been ridden for some distance, did well to get up for second.
Coming out the back of the back though was the unfancied Aspen Grove, who was making just her third start at a racecourse, with both previous engagements also being at the Curragh. Last seen finishing 12th of 18 in June, she ran a cracker of a race to give a big win to her supporters.
Priced up at 0.5-2.0 on the 50-25-10 market before the off, a stunning victory secured buyers the maximum win of 48x their stake.
Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
