Daily Spread Betting Round-up
Will England still qualify for the World Cup?
Damian Szymanski’s late goal grabbed a point for Poland and put the first blemish on England’s World Cup qualification campaign, but after seven points from nine during this international break and a four-point cushion atop Group I, Gareth Southgate’s men are still odds on to make the trip to Qatar.
Yesterday we told how punters profited from Scotland's win in Austria, and while England could only manage a Warsaw draw, there were again plenty of big winning bets.
And in New York, Emma Raducanu continued her amazing run in the US Open against Olympic champion Belinda Bencic.
1. Headed Goal Minutes (Settled at 90)
While many were looking at the two number nines to boost the headed goal minutes total given their records, possibly with a Harry Maguire set piece thrown in, patient punters were rewarded with an injury time headed equaliser from Szymanski. Buyers at 25, looking at a 25-point loss as the match entered time added on, banked 65 times their stake thanks to the late Polish goal.
2. Multi-Bookings (Settled at 1200)
There’s nothing better for buyers in the Multi-Bookings market (which awards 10 points per yellow card and then multiplies the first half total by the second) than a bout of handbags just before the break. Kamil Glik, who looks like he could start a fight in an empty room, was at the centre of it, and he was joined in the book in first half injury time by Harry Maguire. Add in Kalvin Phillips’ 7th minute yellow and another four bookings in the second half and buyers at 285 were banking 915 times their stake.
3. Poland Scrabbled Shirts (Settled at 36)
We pointed out in yesterday's Top 5 Bets of the Day that a game involving Poland could well be the perfect one to 9ouy the Scrabbled Shirts market, and buyers at 23 were rewarded, eventually! While the Poles only managed one goal in the game, Damian Szymanski, was just about the perfect scorer for buyers of Scrabbled shirts, which awards Scrabble letter scores to the names of goalscorers.
4. Multi-Corners (Settled at 3)
Sellers in the Multi-Corners market were well rewarded by a game with very few corner kicks, not to mention a referee who seemed determined not to award many, despite England, and Jack Grealish in particular, appealing for plenty. This market multiplies first half corners by second, and those who sold at 18 prematch saw just three corners in the opening 45 minutes, and just one in the second half, giving sellers a profit of 15 times their stake.
Fairytale in New York
Away from football, all eyes were on the US open as the unbelievable story of Emma Raducanu continued. Ranked outside the top 300 before Wimbledon less than three months ago, the 18-year-old qualifier again won without dropping a set, this time beating Olympic champ Belinda Bencic 6-3 6-4. But where were bettors making money as Raducanu advanced to the semi-finals?
Raducanu Points (Settled at 61)
Sellers of the total points won by Raducanu were again in profit despite the Brit continuing her winning streak. With the spread set at 71-75, sellers banked 10 times their stake as Raducanu, who hasn’t lost a set and only dropped 22 games in her five matches, got the job done quickly again. Normally sellers in this market would be looking for their charge to lose, but Raducanu is beating opponents so swiftly that she is coming up short in total games regularly despite winning.
X-Courts (Settled at 42)
This market sees player 1’s number of games multiplied by player 2’s in each set, and then the results totalled. Again, selling proved the best option here, whether you expected Raducanu to continue her unbelievable run of blasting opponents off court, or you thought Bencic’s class would tell and the fairytale would end. Sellers at 49 won seven times their stake as the market settled at 42 (6x3 + 6x4).
Will Raducanu win the US Open?
Spreadex are an industry best 4/1 for Raducanu to win the US open, third favourite of the four remaining players. Number 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka is 11/10 favourite with Raducanu’s next opponent, Maria Sakkari, next at 5/2.
