Who will win Wednesday’s inconvenient FA Cup 5th round replay between Man City and Huddersfield, 7.45pm on BBC One? While the 0-0 draw at the John Smith’s Stadium wasn’t quite the most surprising result of this season’s FA Cup, the fact that the Terriers are only the 6th side in 2016/17 to prevent City from scoring – placing them in the same company as Barcelona, Spurs, Man United, Liverpool and Everton – is notable in and of itself. Dean Hoyle’s side currently sit in 3rd place in the Championship, 8 points adrift from league leaders Newcastle and 6 away from 2nd place Brighton but, handily, with a game in hand. Huddersfield host the Toon on Saturday, a game that could provide an exponential increase to their chances of nabbing an automatic promotion spot if they take all 3 points. The importance of that fixture puts the Terriers in a tricky situation. Victory at the Etihad would set up winnable quarter-final against Middlesbrough, but may put strain on a squad whose main aim should be securing a spot in the top flight next season. It could also be a chance, however, for Huddersfield to prove that they deserve a place in the Premier League. As for City, they will be feeling fresh after having their Manchester derby delayed thanks to the EFL Cup final. Their last game was the absurd 5-3 win over Monaco in the Champions League, the club’s defensive frailty just about made up for by their ludicrous options up front. Sergio Aguero got 2 in that match – a performance that will go some way to getting the Argentinian back into Pep’s good books – and heads into the cup tie at a staggering Super Mega PGM of 102-122. He is followed by Kelechi Iheanacho at 63-73, Nolito at 54-62 and Raheem Sterling at 39-45. Just for comparison, Huddersfield’s top scorers, Elias Kachunga and Nakhi Wells, are at 10-14 and 12-16 respectively. Though it was likely said before the first attempt at this fixture, the visitors could be in for a battering this evening, with Spreadex offering a Man City/Huddersfield Goal Supremacy spread of 2.5-2.7 alongside a hefty Total Goals spread of 3.7-3.9.
