Jose Mourinho is closing in on a second piece of silverware in his first season at Old Trafford with the Red Devils even money favourites to win the Europa League. Firstly though, United will have to dispose of mid-table Celta Vigo over two legs starting with tonight’s tie at the Balaidos in north-west Spain. Celta currently sit 11th in La Liga having lost four of their last five home league matches, failing to score on four of those occasions. Those defeats, combined with Celta’s recent run of just two wins in their last eight matches in all competitions will give United hope of taking at least a draw, if not more, from the first leg. The Spreadex traders have United as favourites on the spread betting Goal Supremacy at United/Celta (h) 0.15 – 0.35 and 13/10 for the win on the fixed odds with Celta 12/5 and the draw 21/10. However, it could be a cagey affair if the Total Goals spread of 2.15 – 2.35 is anything to go by. United are certainly hard to beat having not lost since October in the Premier League and having only lost twice in their last 40 games in all competitions. But there have been plenty of low-scoring affairs (Total Goals over 90 minutes have averaged at 1.65 in United’s games since March) and draws have come far too frequently for fans’ liking. In the last two knockout rounds, 1-1 draws away from home have eventually proved to be enough to get United through. In the early betting, Spreadex clients are indicating they just about fancy United to do enough to take a lead back to Old Trafford. And given United’s tendency to draw too many games at home this season, this could be welcomed by supporters as they dream of reaching the final in Stockholm on May 24th.
