Can Arsenal somehow save their blushes when they host a beastly Bayern Munich at 7.45pm on Sky Sports 2? Oh Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal – of all their Arsenal-y performances over the years, this might be the straw that breaks Arsene Wenger’s back. Though they have had a reduced work-load thanks to their fixture against Southampton being delayed due to the Saints’ EFL Cup final appearance, the Gunners have managed to pack a huge amount of ineptitude into a relatively small handful of games. Since the end of January they have played 6 games and have won just twice, beating a likely relegation bound Hull in the league, and non-league Sutton United in the FA Cup. Beyond that, well, where to begin? A home loss to Watford was an embarrassment; even more so the 3-1 dismantling at the hands of Chelsea, retribution for the similar defeat Arsenal inflicted on the Blues in September. Most recently they lost 3-1 to Liverpool – and not even a full strength Liverpool but a Reds side that had a worse record than the Gunners. And that’s not the worst of it. Nearly 3 weeks ago Arsenal walked into the Allianz Arena for the umpteenth time, ready to make a statement about their Big Club credentials. They walked out of the stadium humiliated after being tossed about like a rag doll, Bayern stomping to a 5-1 victory. Not only that, the result also helped sow the seeds of discord in Alexis Sanchez, eventually leading to a training ground bust-up and no appearance from the Chilean against Liverpool. Yet, as shown at the weekend, Arsenal are useless without the Chilean, who heads into Tuesday night at a Super Mega PGM of 23-28. As for Bayern, it will be interesting to see if the German side is still baying for blood when they travel to the Emirates, or whether their 4 goal deficit sees them rest some key players. At the same time, they have a 7 point lead at the top of the table, and have lost just one league game all season (and just 3 in total). If the usual faces make an appearance than the likeliest lad to score is Robert Lewandowski, who sits at a fat ol’ Super Mega PGM of 55-63; he is trailed by Thomas Muller at 25-30, and Thiago, who got a brace in the 1st leg, at 11-15. If the Gunners manage to get through to the next round of the Champions League it will likely be the greatest performance of not only Wenger’s tenure, but arguably the club’s entire history. If they don’t then it is another predictable strike against their legendary manager. Spreadex are offering a Bayern Munich/Arsenal (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.5-0.7 alongside a Total Goals spread of 3.15-3.35.
