How much attention will Jurgen Klopp be willing to give the EFL Cup when Liverpool take on Tottenham at 7.45pm on Sky Sports 1? Alongside Arsenal (who they beat in their opening day thriller) Liverpool are the Premier League’s in form team. Since that shock defeat to Burnley in the second weekend of the season the Reds haven’t lost a game, leaving their domestic standing as 6 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss. They had been suffocated by Mourinho’s floundering Manchester United last Monday, but bounced back on Saturday with a largely untroubled 2-1 victory over West Brom. That win was thanks to both Philippe Coutinho, who now has 5 goals, and summer signing Sadio Mane, who has found the back of the net 4 times; both men head into Tuesday’s game at a Super Mega PGM of 25-30.. Also on 4 goals are Roberto Firmino, who sits at 26-31 and, surprisingly, James Milner, at 13-17. It’s a sign of Liverpool’s renewed vigour up front that they have found so much success with Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi (at 48-56 and 33-39 respectively) only contributing 4 goals between them. While their opponents are seemingly overflowing with attacking options, goals are beginning to dry up at Tottenham. Spurs have drawn their last 3 games, and have managed just 1 goal during that period, with Harry Kane (out injured) sorely missed. Of course Tottenham remain the only side yet to lose a game in the Premier League, so it’s not all bad; that may well change, however, if their impotence isn’t fixed soon. In Kane’s absence the pressure has fallen on Son Heung-Min, who heads to Anfield at a Super Mega PGM of 13-17. Initially the South Korean seemed to be coping well; the game before Kane was injured Son scored a brace against Stoke, followed up with another 2 against Middlesbrough and the winner against CSKA Moscow. Yet Son has failed to find the back of the net since October began, a dip in form that has coincided, or perhaps caused, Spurs’ struggles overall. Son isn’t the sole forward Spurs have at their disposal, however, and one imagines Mauricio Pochettino is desperate for Vincent Janssen (at 20-26) and Moussa Dembele to prove they were worth the money spent over the summer. Given their lack of goals it looks like it might be difficult for Spurs to come away from Anfield with the win, Spreadex offering a Liverpool/Tottenham Goal Supremacy spread of 0.85-1.05 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.9-3.1.
