Can Hull do the unthinkable and overturn a 2-0 deficit when they host Man United in their EFL Cup semi-final 2nd leg at 7.45pm on Sky Sports 1? Despite holding on for the first half of the 1st leg, the Tigers eventually succumbed to United after the restart, with goals form Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini placing Jose Mourinho’s men in the driving seat ahead of Thursday’s fixture. Hull followed up that loss with a much needed league win against Bournemouth; however, a subsequent defeat at Chelsea means Marco Silva’s side at still stuck in the relegation zone, 2 points behind 17th place Swansea. Yet that trip to Stamford Bridge, which actually saw Hull display a refreshing resilience, was more notable for the horrendous injury suffered by Ryan Mason. The midfielder fractured his skull in a mid-air clash with Gary Cahill and had to have emergency surgery soon after, with it still unclear whether he will be allowed to resume his career once healed. As for United, they’ve fallen out of the top 5 in the league after back-to-back 1-1 draws against Liverpool and Stoke, and were lucky to come out with anything in both games. The former saw an 84th minute equaliser from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who heads into the semi 2nd leg at a Super Mega PGM of 57-67 but might be given the night off, while the latter was even more dramatic, requiring a 94th minute free-kick from Wayne Rooney. That strike saw Rooney become United’s top goal scorer of all-time, though it was only the fifth time he has found the back of the net this season, explaining his comparatively weak Super Mega PGM spread of 21-25. Interestingly the Hull and United will meet each other again in less than a week for a Premier League catch-up, a schedule that is far more daunting for the Tigers than it is for Mourinho and co. The visitors will be looking to win both of those fixtures, with Spreadex offering an EFL Cup Manchester United/Hull (h) Goal Supremacy spread 1.05-1.25 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.65-2.85.
