Sports Blog 28/07/2016: UEFA Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg – NK Domzale vs West Ham, Thursday 28th July 2016

While you can’t really read much into a club’s pre-season tour, especially after a major tournament like Euro 2016, West Ham’s last few friendlies haven’t been too promising. Losses against the Seattle Sounders and Rubin Kazan have been joined by draws against the Carolina RailHawks and Slovacko; their only victory came against Karlsruher SC, though even that came with the hefty price of an injury to Aaron Cresswell that sees the defender out for 4 months.

Transfer-wise things have been a bit uninspiring as well. Sofiane Feghouli and Toni Martinez have arrived from Valencia, Havard Nordtveit was nabbed from Borussia Monchengladbach and Domingos Quina and Ashley Fletcher have been taken off the hands of Chelsea and Manchester United respectively. Nothing, then, to set to the Olympic Stadium alight.

Yet none of that will matter if West Ham can convincingly secure a safe passage to the Europa League proper, step one of which is Slovenia PrvaLiga bronze medallists NK Domzale. The Slovenian side breezed through the 1st round of qualifying, smashing Andorra’s Lusitanos 5-2 over the 2 legs. Things were far tighter, however, against Belarus’ Shakhtyor Soligorsk; a 1-1 away draw in the 1st leg gave way to a 2-1 victory in the 2nd, the young Zan Majer scoring the winner.

Even if the Hammers field a significantly weaker side (which is likely) Thursday’s match shouldn’t pose too many problems, with Spreadex offering a West Ham/Domzale (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.8-1 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.45-2.65.
