The Fergie years were something else. That is, perhaps, the only way to explain why Manchester United so comfortably top both the Premier League’s all-time home and away tables.

Actually, both lists contain more than a few walks down memory lane, with a few teams no longer in the top flight still making an appearance.

So, which teams ran over the competition on the road? Spreadex has crunched the numbers – take a look at the answers below.

1. Manchester United – win percentage 52%, average 1.82 points per game (APPG)
Though nowhere near their levels of success at Old Trafford, Manchester United nevertheless top the Premier League’s all-time Away table with a win percentage of 52%.

That means they are the only club in the history of the league to have won more games on the road than they’ve drawn and lost.

2. Chelsea – 45%, 1.6 APPG
Climbing up the table to 2nd place, Chelsea have been historically strong away from Stamford Bridge, with an away win percentage of 45%.

They’ve improved on that average in 2019/20, with Frank Lampard overseeing a 50% win percentage in the Premier League.

3. Arsenal – 43%, 1.58 APPG
Knocked down a spot by the Blues, Arsenal have a win percentage of 43% when on the road.

That number has been dragged down by the last few seasons. Under Unai Emery in 2018/19, they managed a paltry away win percentage of 37%, while in 2019/20 they’re on just 15%.

4. Liverpool – 41%, 1.5 APPG
Coming in at no. 4 is Liverpool, with a win percentage of 41% away from Anfield, and an average points per game of 1.5.

If you were to find a weakness in the Reds of late it would be on the road. In 6 of the 8 games they did not win in 2018/19 they were the visitors, while in 2019/20 they dropped points at Man United and Watford.

5. Manchester City – 37%, 1.36 APPG
Once again suffering for their pre-2010s form, Man City are in 5th with a win percentage of 37% and an average 1.36 points per game.

In Pep Guardiola’s first title-winning season in 2017/18, they saw an away win percentage of 84%. In 2018/19 it was 74%. So far in 2019/20 it has slipped again to 60%.

6. Tottenham – 32%, 1.23 APPG
It is a sign of just how much teams tend to struggle on the road that Tottenham sit in 6th place on both Home and Away tables, but with win percentages of 53% and 32% respectively.

When they finished 2nd in 2016/17, Spurs still managed to get their away win percentage up to 47%.

7. Leeds United – 30%, 1.19 APPG
Keeping up their top 10 form despite a long-term absence from the Premier League, Leeds saw a win percentage of 30% on the road.

Their win percentage fell to just 16% when they were relegated in 2003/04.

8. Aston Villa – 27%, 1.11 APPG
Unable to crack the top ten at home – they placed 14th with a win percentage of 41% – Aston Villa earned the no. 8 spot on the road, with a win percentage of 27%.

Remember, Villa actually finished in 2nd place in the first ever Premier League season back in 1992/93.

9. Blackburn Rovers – 27%, 1.09 APPG
Again securing the no. 9 spot – they are 1 of only 2 sides to win the Premier League just once – Blackburn saw an away win percentage of 27% during their time in the top flight.

By their relegation in 2011/12, their win percentage away from Ewood Park was a measly 10.5%.

10. Crystal Palace – 27%, 1.09 APPG
Fifth from the bottom at home, Crystal Palace make a surprise top 10 appearance with an away win percentage of 27%.

This despite not only suffering Premier League relegation on 4 separate occasions, but seeing a cap of 10th place since returning to the top flight in 2013/14.
