The Fergie years were something else. That is, perhaps, the only way to explain why Manchester United so comfortably top both the Premier League’s all-time home and away tables.

Actually, both lists contain more than a few walks down memory lane, with a few teams no longer in the top flight still making an appearance.

So, which teams built fortresses at home? Spreadex has crunched the numbers – take a look at the answers below.

1. Manchester United – win percentage 71%, 2.33 average points per game (APPG)
For the first 2 decades of the Premier League’s existence, there was no more intimidating, rightfully feared ground than Old Trafford.

And even the dry Moyes/van Gaal/Mourinho/Solskjaer years haven’t dulled that achievement, with Man United managing an astonishing win percentage of 71% at the Theatre of Dreams.

2. Arsenal – 64%, 2.16 APPG
They may be far from the glory of the peak-Wenger years, but Arsenal still come in at 2nd in the all-time Home table with a win percentage of 64% and average 2.16 points per game.

What maybe makes this more surprising is that the Gunners went through the uneasy transition from Highbury to the Emirates without sacrificing this (admittedly very specific) silver medal.

3. Liverpool – 63%, 2.12 APPG
The highest ranked side yet to win a Premier League title – the kind of phrase that haunts the Reds on these kinds of lists – Liverpool have a 63% win percentage at Anfield.

Just look at the as-yet-unfinished 2019/20 season, where Jurgen Klopp’s lads have a remarkable 100% record at home from 15 fixtures.

4. Chelsea – 62%, 2.11 APPG
The last of the teams with a 60%-plus home win percentage – 62% to be exact – the post-Roman Abramovich years are the reason for Chelsea making the top 4.

It is maybe also worth noting that Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea – all top flight mainstays – have played exactly 534 Premier League home games apiece.

5. Manchester City – 56%, 1.9 APPG
Man City are sort of the inverse of United. Focus on the last few seasons and the defending champions would likely be higher, maybe even no .1.

If anything, it is a sign of how good they are now that they have a home win percentage of 56% despite twice being relegated from the Premier League.

6. Tottenham – 53%, 1.84 APPG
It is maybe illustrative of why Tottenham are yet to win a Premier League title that their home win percentage is 11 points behind their bitter London rivals Arsenal.

It looks like that is maybe going to improve at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Since the move they’ve won 11 in 19 Premier League home fixtures – a win percentage of around 58%.

7. Leeds United – 50%, 1.77 APPG
In the most shocking entry, Leeds – who were last in the Premier League in 2003/04 – come in at no. 7 with a win percentage of 50%.

It is perhaps easy to forget that in 7 of their 12 seasons in the Premier League the Whites finished in 5th place or higher, before their rapid decline between 2002 and 2004.

8. Newcastle United – 50%, 1.75 APPG
Good news for Newcastle, who now have the richest owners of any Premier League side.

Even under the dark years of Mike Ashley’s reign, the Magpies still managed to maintain a win percentage of 50% at St James’ Park. (It is their inferior average points per game that puts them behind Leeds).

9. Blackburn Rovers – 49%, 1.7 APPG
1994/95 champions make a surprise appearance in 9th place, with an Ewood Park win percentage of 49%.

That’s likely cold comfort for a since that haven’t been in the top flight since they were relegated in 2012.

10. Everton – 47%, 1.68 APPG
One of the 6 sides to appear in every season of the Premier League, Everton earn 10th place with a win percentage of 47% at Goodison Park.

They have David Moyes to thank for much of that. After all it was his overachievement with the Toffees that got him that ill-fated stint at Old Trafford.
