While not favourites – at 15/2 they trail France, England and Belgium – Spain are rocking up to Euro 2020 with some impressive spreads. Even in a group that contains potential stumbling blocks in Slovakia, Sweden and a Robert Lewandowski-led Poland, Spain have a competition-best Group Goals Scored spread of 5.8-6.3 and the highest Group Total Goal Minutes spread of 303-330. At a Breaking the Deadlock spread of 49-54 they are expected to score their first goal faster than any other team, while a Backs to the Wall spread of 118-123 means they are expected to concede their first goal later than anyone else as well. What’s interesting about those numbers is that, only 4 times in 11 games since the start of 2020 have Spain scored more than 1 goal. Then again, they did beat Germany 6-0. Up front the great hope may be Man City’s Ferran Torres, who has 6 goals in 10 appearances, including a hat-trick against the Germans. Villarreal’s Gerard, meanwhile, is on 5 in 10, and ended the domestic season with 30 goals total. Then there’s Alvaro Morata. Though outshone by Ronaldo at Juventus, he still got 20 goals last season, including 6 in the Champions League. And he has a more than respectable record internationally, with 19 goals in 39 games. If Spain are favourites to top the group at 4/11, then Poland and Sweden are fighting for 2nd place, at 2/5 and 40/85 to qualify respectively. However, if Robert Lewandowski – arguably the best player in the world, and scorer of 48 goals in 40 games(!) for Bayern in 20/21 – can match his domestic form, then Poland could challenge for 1st place. Awaiting the Group E winners in the last-16 is one of the 3rd place teams, followed by either the winner of Group D (potentially England) or the Group F runner-up (take your pick from France, Portugal or Germany) in the quarter-finals. 1ST SCORER INSURANCE ON EVERY GAMEEnjoy access to this fantastic offer for every game in the European Championships.
