They’ve broken records, wowed fans, and are mere games away from winning the title – and, now, Spreadex can reveal Liverpool’s 2019/20 side are the most profitable Premier League team for betters in the last 16 years. If you had backed Liverpool to win ahead of each individual fixture so far this season, looking for a £10 profit per game, you would have ended up with a profit of £238.41. Spreadex worked out the data by calculating the total profit and loss earned by every team for punters each season for the past 16 years, based on placing a bet on the pre-match fixed odds prices to win £10 on every game (E.g. £100 on a team at 1/10, £10 on a team at evens, £1 on a team at 10/1 etc.). But the Reds don’t dominate every category. Read on below as we dig into the data and look at which teams best rewarded punters – and those that committed pitchside robbery. So, who are the most profitable teams for betters in Premier League history? Foxes take the top spot, Saints a money-sinkIn large part thanks to their astonishing 2015/16 title-winners, Leicester are actually the most profitable team of the last 16 years. Back them to win ahead of each and every fixture across that period and you ended up with £142.46. Do the same for Southampton, however, and you would’ve lost £423.45 – worse than any other team in the league. City make bank at the Etihad, lose it on the roadFocusing just on home form, and Man City have built quite the reputation at the Etihad. So much so that chasing a £10 profit for a home victory across every single game at the stadium in the last 16 years would have netted you £253.13. Yet back them away from home, and you would’ve lost £348.55, more than supporting any other team on the road. As for the worst on home turf, it turns out that Stamford Bridge is a bit of a money pit, with Chelsea losing you £422.45. Palace do the business away from homeCrystal Palace aren’t a side that jump to mind when thinking of Premier League success. However, aiming for £10 profit from an Eagles win before every away game the club has played in the last 16 years would’ve left you with £92.41. That’s better than any of their more vaunted league-mates. Five teams have never had a profitable seasonPity these clubs. Brighton, Derby, Hull, Middlesbrough and QPR failed to be a profitable proposition for betters in any of their Premier League seasons. Boro came closest, losing just 90p in 2006/07. Relegation money-makersDespite getting the chop in 2010/11 and 2018/19 respectively, Blackpool and Cardiff still avoided putting punters in the red. The Seasiders made a profit of £7.01, while the Bluebirds made £24.75. Top 10 individual team seasons of the last 16 years1. Liverpool 2019/20 – £238.412. Chelsea 2016/17 – £203.293. Liverpool 2018/19 – £175.214. Man United 2012/13 – £167.765. Leicester 2015/16 – £142.046. Tottenham 2016/17 – £133.397. Man United 2008/09 – £133.398. Man City 2011/12 – £125.849. Liverpool 2005/06 – £113.8610. Chelsea 2004/05 – £112.86
