It's almost time for the most famous and prestigious tennis tournament of the year - Wimbledon - at the hallowed grass grounds of SW19 and the All England Club. But who are the main betting favourites ahead of this year's tournament in both the men's and women's draws?

Tennis is in somewhat of a transition at the moment with much of the old guard (Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams to name a few) absent or already retired, and several young talents will be looking for glory on the grass. Novak Djokovic will begin as the outright betting favourite to defend his title, in what would be his eighth Wimbledon triumph, and in the process pull further clear in the all-time Grand Slam list.

In terms of the main candidates for success over the fortnight in the men's draw, Spanish wonderkid and current world number one Carlos Alcaraz will head a group of players who are eager to either take the next step in their careers, make a mark, or go past the point of previous achievements. In the women's draw, Elena Rybakina will look to make it back-to-back Wimbledon triumphs, but will be sternly challenged by the likes of Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka.

In this feature, Spreadex Sports look at some of the key favourites for the trophy, as well as potential dark horses!

We take a look at the top favourites for the Tournament Winner Outright fixed odds market - which you can see here, while also not forgetting about our various spread betting markets for tennis! You can view those here, and you can visit our learning materials for tennis spread betting here.

TOURNAMENT WINNER (OUTRIGHT) - who will win wimbledon 2023?

men's draw

Who are the betting favourites at Wimbledon this year? In the men's draw, the outright favourite - perhaps unsurprisingly - is seven time winner Novak Djokovic. The Serb will be looking for a record-extending 24th Grand Slam and is priced on the fixed odds at 8/13 and on the spreads at 42.5 - 45.5 on our Outright Index. This market is settled in the following manner: 60 - Winner, 40 - Runner-Up, 20 - Losing Semi-Final, 10 - Losing Quarter-Final, 5 - Losing Round-of-16, 0 - Other.

This means for example if you bought at 45.5 and Djokovic wins the title, you would win 14.5x your opening stake. However, if he was the losing finalist you would lose 5.5x your stake. Or, if you sold at 42.5 and he made a shock exit in the opening round, you would win 42.5x your stake.

The second betting favourite is Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed and world number one from Spain. The reigning US Open champion was beaten by Djokovic in the French Open semi-finals a few weeks ago and has limited experience on grass courts but he won the Queen's warm-up event and is looking better with every match he plays on the green stuff. Alcaraz stands at 15/4 on the fixed odds and with a spread of 23.5 - 26.5.

Aside from the two favourites, the last-minute withdrawal of last year's finalist Nick Kyrgios means the rest of the field looks very open and it is difficult to pick a standout candidate due to the relative lack of grass-court pedigree, in large part due to tennis seeing a changing of the guard with several new talents making their name, such as Holger Rune (33/1), Sebastian Korda (28/1), and Felix Auger-Aliassime (80/1). Daniil Medvedev is the third-favourite at 14/1 but has yet to show any notable results on grass. However, he won the Rome Masters unexpectedly on his least-preferred clay surface - could he produce another shock here?

Italy's Jannik Sinner held a two-set lead over Djokovic in the 2022 Wimbledon quarter-finals, and he is available on the fixed odds at 18/1. Sinner has long been touted as a future number one, Grand Slam winner and key rival to Alcaraz, but has recently had struggles with his fitness and mentality when closing out tight matches. Could Sinner overcome his troubles and make a statement here?

In terms of British interest, Cam Norrie lost to Djokovic in the semi-finals last year and will be hopeful of going on another deep run. Norrie is available at 100/1 on the fixed odds and 3 - 5 on the spreads. Two-time champion Andy Murray is also in the draw and priced at 40/1 with a spread of 4 - 6. Murray won two grass court Challenger titles in the run-up to Wimbledon and will be hopeful for a decent run at SW19 - he is also coincidentally the only man to have beaten Djokovic in a Wimbledon final.

Other players to mention are the big-serving trio of Taylor Fritz (28/1) - who came agonisingly close to the semis last year in an epic defeat to Rafael Nadal, Hubert Hurkacz (50/1) - who famously 'bagelled' Roger Federer in the Swiss' last Wimbledon, and 2021 finalist Matteo Berrettini (80/1), who has been on the comeback trail after several injuries.

WOMEN'S DRAW

In the women's draw, Iga Swiatek comes in as betting favourite at 13/5 and with a spread of 24.5 - 27.5. The Roland Garros champion has surprisingly never gone past the fourth round at SW19, and will be hoping for a deep run here. However, defending champion Elena Rybakina will provide stiff resistance and is priced at 5/1 - arguably a very appealing price for the current title holder. Aryna Sabalenka, who won the 2023 Australian Open, is also one of the betting favourites here, at 11/2 and sharing a 15.5 - 18.5 spread with Rybakina.

In terms of British interest, six British women are in the draw - Katie Boulter (300/1), Katie Swan (400/1), Harriet Dart (500/1), Heather Watson (400/1), Jodie Burrage (500/1) and Sonay Kartal (500/1). Could any of them end up defying the odds and going on a famous run this year?
