Can Celtic be stopped, or do the Bhoys have the 2017/18 Scottish Premiership wrapped up before a single ball has been kicked? Brendan Rodgers’ side finished with a truly ridiculous 30 point-lead in 2016/17, marking their 6th consecutive title. In other words there haven’t been real challengers for the Scottish crown since Rangers’ financial turmoil and subsequent relegation back in 2012. By the looks of things that won’t change this time around – Celtic are odds on favourites at 1/12, with a Season Points spread of 89.5-91.5. The Bhoys take on Hearts in their first game of the new season at Saturday lunchtime, just 3 days after a Champions League qualifying trip to Rosenberg (a game they at least need to score in following a 0-0 draw at home). Hearts, who sit at 200/1 to win the title, shouldn’t pose too much of a problem for the hosts, with Spreadex offering a Celtic/Hearts Goal Supremacy spread of 1.9-2.1 alongside a Total Goals spread of 1.9-2.1. According to Spreadex’s fixed odds prices, the only sides they could potentially rival Celtic are last Rangers, who are a long way from the side that used to be part of a Scottish duopoly with their Edinburgh rivals, and last year’s runners-up Aberdeen. The former are at 10/1 to win the league and travel to Motherwell in their opening game on Sunday, with Spreadex offering a Rangers/Motherwell (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.75-0.95 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.5-2.7. As for the Dons, who are 16/1 to win the league, they are already on a tight Europa League schedule. On Thursday they visit Apollon Limassol in Cyprus seeking to protect their 2-1 1st leg lead, before Hamilton Academical at 3pm on Saturday afternoon. Hamilton narrowly avoided relegation last season, beating Dundee United 1-0 in the Premiership play-off final, so the hosts should feel pretty confident at an Aberdeen/Hamilton Goal Supremacy spread of 1.5-1.7 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.75-2.95.
