With 2 weeks left to go, how will Liverpool respond to their mid-week mistakes when they travel to Newcastle this Saturday, at 7.45pm on Sky Sports Premier League? Given the high wire act the Reds and Man City are trying to pull off heading into the final fortnight of the season, the slightest shift in confidence may be enough to decide the title race. That means the fact City will have had more than a week between last Sunday’s narrow 1-0 win at Burnley and Monday’s visit from Leicester, while Liverpool are coming off a Wednesday’s trip to the Nou Camp, could play a disproportionate role in deciding this year’s champions.
It’s not only the proximity of that fixture, but the result. Jurgen Klopp’s tactics backfired, with Barcelona eventually sweeping aside their visitors 3-0. The lack of away goal means last season’s beaten Champions League finalists face an absolute mount of a task if they are to repeat that feat this time out. So, Liverpool may be at a low ebb heading into the weekend. On the other hand, they haven’t lost a league game since January 3rd, and have won their last 7 domestic fixtures on the trot. They also have Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both chasing the 2018/19 Golden Boot, with the pair at Super Mega PGMs of 57-67 and 36-42 respectively. It helps that their hosts on Saturday are a likely manageable Newcastle. Stuck in the bottom half of the table, with little chance of that changing, the Toon don’t have a huge amount to play for. They have, however, been in decent enough for, beating Leicester and Southampton (before, admittedly, drawing at Brighton). The bottom line is, sat one point behind City, the Reds can’t afford anything but a win. Luckily for them, then, Spreadex are offering a Liverpool/Newcastle (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 1.4-1.6, alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.8-3.
