Can Manchester United edge closer to the Europa League knockouts with a win over Fenerbahce, at 6pm on BT Sport 3? October was a pretty awful month for United. In 6 games (all competitions) they managed a measly 7 goals, 4 of which came against Fenerbahce, and failed to pick up a single win in the Premier League. All of a sudden, then, the Europa League has become a lot more important, providing another route to reach the Champions League if their domestic campaign continues to falter. Emblematic of United’s troubles at the moment is the waning form of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. After scoring 3 goals in his first 4 league game the big Swede looked like the side’s star summer signing; yet since that initial splurge Zlatan has struggled, failing to find the back of the net since the end of September. Even more worryingly despite this drought Ibrahimovic, who sits at a Super Mega PGM of 32-38, is still United’s top scorer this season, outstripping Marcus Rashford, at 21-15, and Anthony Martial, at 20-24. Nevertheless Jose Mourinho’s side should be able to pick up a win against their Turkish opponents, especially after thrashing them in the home leg, with Spreadex offering a Manchester United/Fenerbahce (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.3-0.5 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.35-2.55. With Inter Milan in disarray can Southampton nab the victory denied them at the San Siro when the two sides meet at 8.05pm on BT Sport 2? The Saints are in danger of entering another rocky patch if they aren’t careful; they have failed to win their last 3 games (admittedly against Man City, Chelsea and Inter Milan), and could well end up completely throwing away the momentum built up from the mid-September to mid-October. Southampton were unlucky lose in Italy, given that they had the majority of possession and chances, though Claude Puel might be slightly concerned that his side failed to capitalise on Inter playing with 10 men for the final 15 minutes. Once again the manager will look to Charlie Austin to lead the front-line, the club’s top scorer this season heading into Thursday’s game at a Super Mega PGM of 38-44, with Nathan Redmond some way behind at 19-23. Inter, meanwhile, will be managed by youth coach Stefano Vecchi following the dismissal of Frank de Boer earlier in the week. The Dutchman ended up losing half of his 14 games in charge, including a dismal October run in Serie A that saw 1 win and 4 defeats. Even Mauro Icardi’s decent goal-scoring record this season has been tainted by his altercations with eh Ultras; he heads into the game at a Super Mega PGM of 23-28. This discord at the Italian club should work in the Saints favour, with Spreadex offering a Southampton/Inter Milan Goal Supremacy spread of 0.5-0.7 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.4-2.6.
