Sports Blog 04/04/2016: Match Preview – Manchester United U21 vs Chelsea U21, Monday 4th April 2016

Manchester United’s youngsters are arguably the league’s in form side; at the very least they are far outperforming their ostensible elders. Sitting in 2nd place in Division 1 on 38 points, 5 behind 1st place Sunderland but having played 4 less games, United’s U21s are well on the way to keeping hold of the title they won in 2014/15, a feat that would see them having won 3 times in the 4 seasons since the league’s inception.

Manchester United U21 Chelsea U21 Match Spreads April 4th

Their last defeat was in the U21s Manchester Derby back in February, a goal from Ashley Brown-Smith giving City the victory at the Etihad. Yet that was only United’s 3rd league loss this season (the other 2 being against Everton at the start of February and Norwich at the end of November), leaving them with 12 wins, 3 draws (most recently against Liverpool) and those aforementioned 3 defeats. Even more impressively they haven’t yet lost at home, something that doesn’t bode well for Chelsea on Monday evening.

Talking of the Blues, like United they have arguably outperformed their first-team club mates, 7 wins, 4 draws and 4 losses leaving them in 5th place (but having played the least amount of games since the season began). Interestingly, like their Premier League teammates, Chelsea’s U21s haven’t lost a league game in 2016, victories over Tottenham, Norwich, Reading and, most recently, Leicester joined by draws against Sunderland and Southampton.

Yet, as mentioned, United have looked formidable at home, and with tonight’s game held at Old Trafford AND featuring a returning Wayne Rooney, it looks like the Red Devilets should prevail. Our Spreadex traders are offering a Manchester United/Chelsea Goal Supremacy spread of 0.7-0.9 with a Total Goals spread of 3-3.2.
