Will Rangers pummel Progres Niederkorn when the Scots travel to Luxembourg City, at 6.45pm on Premier Sports? Things didn’t exactly go to plan in the 1st leg of this Europa League qualifier. Though Rangers came away from the Ibrox with a win – thanks to Kenny Miller who, at 37, is on his third stint at the club –it’s not a stretch to think that no-one involved at the club will have been happy with a 1-0 win, in front of a sell-out home crowd, against a side that came 4th in the Luxembourg National Division. Now that may sound patronising to Progres but, come on, even their manager Paolo Amodio seemed pretty pleased his side wasn’t battered, claiming that now ‘all the pressure is on Rangers’ to ‘make sure they go through’. Rangers’ manager Pedro Caixinha could shake things up heading to the Stade Jose Barthel. Summer signing Alfredo Morelos may get more than the final 10 minutes to prove his worth; ditto winger Daniel Candeias, who came on just before the hour mark. One bright spot from last Thursday’s game, at least, was former Aberdeen captain Ryan Jack, who put in a solid performance after controversially making his way to the Ibrox at the start of June. Caixinha will be expecting more from his boys this time out, especially if they are to stand any chance of making it beyond the initial – and what should be very easy – 1st round of qualifying. There has been a definite dampening of expectations, however, and that’s not just because the Gers are playing away from home. Whereas they entered the 1st leg with a Supremacy spread of 2.95-3.15 alongside a Total Goals spread of 4-4.3, the Scots not sit at a more reasonable Rangers/Progres Niederkorn (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 1.7-1.9 with a Total Goals spread of 2.85-3.05.
