With Roger Federer crashing out in the 4th round, will there by another huge scalp during the quarter-finals? The most eye-catching QF sees Serena Williams take on Karolina Pliskova. William is looking to cap off her comeback year with a Grand Slam victory, having exited in the 4th round in France and lost in the final at Wimbledon. The all-timer has looked pretty unstoppable so far. She didn’t drop a set in the first 3 rounds, including a merciless 6-1 6-2 win over her sister in the 3rd, and while she had a wobble against Kaia Kanepi in the 4th, the 33-year Estonian eventually proved no match for the American ace. That not only leaves Williams with a Match Supremacy spread of 7-10 over Pliskova – who, admittedly, hasn’t lost a set full stop – but an Outright Index-topping spread of 33.5-36.5, ahead of Madison Keys’ 28.5-31.5 and Sloane Stephens’ 26.5-29.5. Tuesday’s first women’s quarter-final has Stephens face off against Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova. The defending champion has had an up and down season, with 1st round exits at the Australian Open and Wimbledon coming alongside an appearance in the French Open final. She’s look good in New York, however, and sits at a Stephens/ Sevastova Match Supremacy spread of 6-9. Over on the men’s side of the draw, 3rd seed Juan Martin Del Potro is all set to face John Isner. Del Potro’s one Grand Slam triumph came at the US Open, if nearly a decade ago, with 2017’s losing semi-final effort the best he has done in New York since. Isner, meanwhile, reached the last 4 of a major tournament over the summer, as he lost to Kevin Anderson in 5 sets at Wimbledon. It looks like the Argentine, who has cruised through to the quarters, has the edge, at a Del Potro/Isner Match Supremacy spread of 8.5-11.5. Finally 2017 men’s champion Rafa Nadal goes up against Austria’s Dominic Thiem. The Spaniard hasn’t had it all his own way, taken to 4 sets by both Karen Khachanov and Nikoloz Basilashvili, though he is still fancied to reach the semis, at a Nadal/Thiem Match Supremacy spread of 10.5-13.5.
