It’s still all to play for in Group D, with the Republic of Ireland, Wales and Serbia duking it out for a place at the 2018 World Cup. Serbia currently sit in 1st place on 15 points, followed by Ireland on 13 and the Welsh on 11. Given that Martin O’Neill’s side host the leaders in Dublin, and Wales face a winnable trip to Moldova, the table could look very different come the end of Tuesday night. Ireland shot themselves in the foot on Saturday. Having taken the lead in Tbilisi after only 4 minutes thanks to a strike from Shane Duffy, they then allowed Georgia to equalise before break. The Irish actually finished the game with a pathetic 26% of possession, failing to produce anything in the 2nd half to truly trouble their hosts. Combine that with Serbia’s easy breezy 3-0 win over Moldova and Wales’ late(ish) 1-0 victory over Austria and Ireland not only allowed the former to nudge closer to Russia, but gave a lifeline to the latter. The first time Ireland and Serbia met – a year ago to the day – O’Neill’s side managed to steal a 2-2 draw after Daryl Murphy equalised in the 80th minute. They’ll need to go one better this time round, though it’ll be tough, with Spreadex offering a choice Republic of Ireland/Serbia Goal Supremacy spread of -0.1-0.1 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.05-2.25. As for Wales, if they are to capitalise on Ireland’s mistake they can’t slip up against Moldova. When they hosted the Eastern European side last September they produced their one wholly convincing performance since exiting the Euros, with a brace from Gareth Bale – who has a Super Mega PGM of 72-84 – helping them along to a 4-0 win. Chris Coleman could do with a similar showing on Tuesday, with Spreadex offering a Wales/Moldova (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 1.7-1.9 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.5-2.7.
