It is set to be a tense Brazilian Gran Prix this weekend, in the penultimate race of the 2016 season! A win in Sao Paulo would secure a first ever championship for Nico Rosberg, who is tantalisingly close to escaping the shadow of his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton. Momentum is just about on the Brit’s side, however, following wins in the USA and Mexico, and Hamilton knows that finishes below Rosberg on Sunday makes it anywhere from very difficult to near impossible for him to retain his title. As it stands the German is the clear favourite on both Spreadex’s Drivers’ Championship Index, at a spread of 55-57 to his rival’s 43-45 (where the winner gets 60 points and the runner-up gets 40), and the fixed odds prices, odds on at 1/5 to Hamilton’s 10/3. In terms of this weekend’s Grand Prix, however, things are a bit different. As mentioned Hamilton has won the last 2 races, with Rosberg 2nd in both, leaving the Brit with a Race Index spread of 57-61 to his teammate’s 52-56. It must be said, however, that Rosberg has won the last 2 Brazilian Grand Prix, while Hamilton has never finished higher than runner-up at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace. Beyond the front two, 3rd place Daniel Ricciardo will be looking to pick up his second win of the season, and sits at a Race Index spread of 36-39, while former champ Sebastian Vettel is at 33-36 and young upstart Max Verstappen is at 36-39.
