Can a monstrous Man City halt Man United’s return to form when the pair face-off on Sunday, at 4.30pm on Sky Sports Premier League? Though not completely infallible – they did lose their Champions League curtain raiser at home to Lyon – City have been swallowing teams whole this season. They look determined to defend their Premier League title, scoring 33 goals(!) and conceding only 4(!!), with a 2 points buffer at the top of the table. In the EFL Cup, though unchallenged in terms of competition, they are yet to let in a goal, while in Europe they just beat Shakhtar Donetsk 6-0 at the Etihad, putting them in control of Group F. One of the most impressive things about Pep Guardiola’s side at the moment is that goals can seemingly come from anywhere. Sergio Aguero’s on 10, Raheem Sterling’s on 7, with both Riyad Mahrez and David Silva on 6, and Gabriel Jesus and Bernando Silva on 5. It is goal-scoring socialism, an even share of the glory spread throughout the first team. The same can’t quite be said of United. Romelu Lukaku has been out of form – and may miss the derby anyway due to injury – while Alexis Sanchez has continued his uninspired tenure at Old Trafford. Antony Martial has impressed, at least, his 6 goals in all competition making him the club’s top scorer. Though issues may remain, there has nevertheless been a distinct improvement in the side’s fortunes in the last month or so. They’re now on a 3 game winning streak, a trio of 2-1 victories over Everton, Bournemouth and, most recently, Juventus. That latter result is obviously the most important, giving them a better shot at reaching the Champions League knockouts while proving they can still hang with Europe’s big boys (however late they left it to secure all 3 points). Now Mourinho and co. just need to avoid embarrassment on Sunday. Yet that might be easier said than done, with Spreadex offering a Man City/Man United Goal Supremacy spread of 1.45-1.65 alongside a Total Goals spread of 3.3-3.5.
