Sports Blog 10/02/2015: Match Preview – Liverpool vs Tottenham, Tuesday 10th February 2015

Both sides were embroiled in derbies at the weekend, with Tottenham pulling off an impressive victory against Arsenal, whilst Liverpool could only manage a 0-0 draw with Everton. 2015 has been a good year so far for each team, for Tottenham especially as they reached the League Cup final and continue to knock on the door of the top four. Spurs’ season has been buoyed by the one thing Liverpool have been in sore need of: a star striker. The absence of Suarez, and the only-just returning Daniel Sturridge, has left Brendan Rodgers’ men sparse up front. In comparison, Tottenham have struck gold with academy boy Harry Kane, who is on 22 goals in all competitions this season after a brace against the Gunners.

It may been Kane who is the separating factor, as he has been so often this season, as on paper Liverpool and Tottenham have very similar current form. Liverpool, the only unbeaten Premier League side in 2015, haven’t lost in 8 league games with a formidable 4 league clean sheets on the trot. Tottenham, on the other hand, have only 1 loss in their last 12 league games, and have the fourth best away league record this season. However, the past is not in Spurs’ favour; out of 71 visits to Anfield, Tottenham have only won a dismal 6 times. Yet there is no better time than the present for Spurs to put stats like that to bed, and fresh off beating their North London rivals, Mauricio Pochettino will be confident that his men can get something.

Liverpool should see Lallana (9/1 to score first with 3 goals) return from a groin injury, alongside Sterling (9 goals at 5/1) and Coutinho, both of whom suffered knocks against the Toffees. Sturridge, who will be a key figure in the end to Liverpool’s season, is at 4/1 to score first, with Steven Gerrard at 17/2 on 9 goals. Golden boy Harry Kane is at 11/2, with Christian Eriksen at 10/1 on 11 goals, whilst Nacer Chadli, a sub for the past 2 games, is at 12/1 with 9 goals.

As both teams try and capitalise on their current form, tonight’s game should be a tight affair; the home advantage has our clients liking a Liverpool/Tottenham Goal Supremacy spread betting quote of 0.5-0.7. And given this evening’s contest will likely be between Harry Kane versus Liverpool’s clean-sheet defence, Spreadex are offering a Total Goals spread betting quote of 2.85-3.05.
