Sports Blog 10/02/2016: FA Cup 4th Round Replay Preview – Peterborough vs West Brom, Wednesday 10th February 2016

The first attempt at this tie ended up being one of the more exciting 4th round fixtures this season. Taking the lead early in the first half thanks to a goal from the out of-favour Saido Berahino the Baggies were in control, if unimpressive, for much of the game, only for a 79th minute strike from Shaquile Coulthirst to make things level. West Brom quickly responded 5 minutes later, with Berahino grabbing his second of the match and, ostensibly, securing a place for Tony Pulis’ side in the 5th round; Jon Taylor had other ideas, however, finding the back a mere 2 minutes later to set up a replay this Wednesday evening.

Peterborough West Brom FA Cup Match Spreads February 10th

West Brom haven’t looked too impressive in the interim, a 1-1 draw with Swansea and a loss at Newcastle leaving the Baggies with 29 points in 14th place, and with a solitary league win in 2016. Peterborough have fared slightly better, a 1-0 away win over Chesterfield (their first League One victory since the 2nd January) leaving the Posh in 8th place on 44 points, only 3 away from the lower half of the play-off zone.

In terms of Wednesday’s replay much of the focus will be on Saido Berahino, who goes into the game at 9/2 fixed odds to score first with a Player Goal Minutes spread of 20-23. There was much speculation at the end of January that Berahino’s appearance in the FA Cup 4th round would be his last in a Baggies shirt, especially since the player had been angling for a transfer over the summer. Yet the striker is still there and, in all competitions, remains West Brom’s top scorer with 6 goals. His start against Peterborough nearly a fortnight ago also suggests Pulis might be willing to bring Berahino back into the fold, and another goal-filled performance on Wednesday evening could secure his place going forwards.

Though they fumbled in the final minutes back in January, Tony Pulis and co. should be able to overcome the mild threat posed by the Posh, Spreadex offering a West Brom/Peterborough (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.35-0.55 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.5-2.7.
