The UK hasn’t gotten off to the best start in the inaugural UEFA Nations League – can Scotland help change that when they host Albania at 7.45pm on Sky Sports Main Event? Alex McLeish’s side are the worst ranked out of the ‘Home Nations’, at least in regards to UEFA’s new competition. While England scrap in League A, and Wales and Norther Ireland (and the Republic of Ireland) aim for promotion in League B, the Scots are all the way down in League C. They are, at least, in the division’s sole 3-country group, with trips to Albania and Israel on the cards. Though they didn’t even make it to the play-offs, their attempt at World Cup qualification last year wasn’t too bad. They only lost 2 games, away to Slovakia and England, and only finished in 3rd behind their central European groupmates on goal difference. Still, it was enough for Gordon Strachan to be let go, with McLeish taking over the reins at Hampton Park for the 2nd time. Sadly for the Scots, since the former Aberdeen star took over in February, they haven’t looked particularly promising. Their sole win was over Hungary at the end of March, their other results being losses to Costa Rica, Peru, Mexico, and, last Friday, Belgium. Even worse is that they failed to score in all of those defeats, while conceding 8 (4 of which came against Russia’s bronze medallists). In terms of Monday’s game, the Scots at least have a bit of good news in the form of a healthy Leigh Griffiths, who came off at half-time during the country’s Belgian humiliation. The Celtic forward sits at a Super Mega PGM of 36-42, ahead of Steven Naismith, Robert Snodgrass and Johnny Russell, who all sit at 18-22. As for Albania, they’ve already picked up a Nations League win, beating Israel at home 1-0. That’s not enough for them to have the edge over the hosts, however, with Spreadex offering a Scotland/Albania Goal Supremacy spread of 0.75-0.95 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.05-2.25.
