Can Leeds cement their place in the Championship top 2 with a win at Reading on Tuesday night? Having spent 20 out of 36 weeks at the top of the table, the Whites shouldn’t have needed a bit of luck to claw their way back into one of the automatic promotion berths at the top of the table. However, an awful January and February, with 4 losses and a draw in 9 games, combined with their defeat against Hull at the very end of 2018, saw them (briefly) slip down into 3rd.
Thankfully, their hopes of returning to the Premier league without a Wembley detour were boosted as March got underway. A 4-0 hammering of West Brom at home, and a 1-0 win on the road at Bristol City, saw Leeds keep up their end of the bargain; the final factor was Sheffield United succumbing to a goalless draw in the derby at Wednesday, a result that saw the 2 sides switch places. While Leeds try and keep up their promotion-chasing momentum, Reading have been straining to hold off relegation. Currently the Royals are in 19th, but with only 3 points separating them and 22nd place Rotherham United. Reading actually only recently managed to escape the drop zone, crawling up the table in mid-February with a win over Blackburn. And though that was followed by a 4-0 loss at Sheffield United and draw against relegation rivals Rotherham, March has seen them pick up back-to-back wins – over Ipswich and Wigan – for the first time in the league this season. Still, they likely won’t have it in them to give Leeds a lamping, with Spreadex offering a Leeds/Reading (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.7-0.9, alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.55-2.75.
