Can Bolton leapfrog back into League One’s top 2 with a victory against Gillingham, at 8pm on Sky Sports 1? Aiming to bounce straight back into the Championship after last season’s bottom of the table embarrassment, the Wanderers currently sit in 3rd, but will displace Sheffield United, and sit just 1 point behind leaders Scunthorpe United, if they are triumphant on Monday evening. Bolton are League One’s in form side, with 8 wins and 1 loss in their last 9 games; that is quite the turnaround from their showing from the end of August and to the beginning of October, where the Wanderers managed a meagre 4 points from a possible 21. There are still a few issues Phil Parkinson needs to deal with, however, especially with the January transfer window looming. While Bolton have the best defence in the league, conceding just 12 goals (6 less than their closest rival), they have found the back of the net just 24 times, with only 4 sides scoring less. Zach Clough leads with 7 goals (half the amount of Scunthorpe’s Josh Morris, who is the league’s top scorer), with Josh Vela and Conor Wilkinson on 4 apiece. As for Gillingham, at the moment it appears the best finish this season could be a push for one of the bottom-rung play-off places. Currently in 16th place on 26 points, a victory at the Macron Stadium on Monday would likely lift them to 11th place, and only 3 points away from 6th place Peterborough. Their last game was a solid 3-0 win over Rochdale, a result that hints at the club’s potential play-off pedigree. Given that the Wanderers have conceded twice in their last 9 games it is hard to see them being broken down on Monday, with Spreadex offering a Bolton/Gillingham Goal Supremacy spread of 0.8-1 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.65-2.85.
