Can West Brom become the latest side to spring a surprise on Chelsea when they travel to Stamford Bridge at 8pm on Sky Sports? No top flight team has won fewer games in 2017/18 than the Baggies. Only thrice have West Brom finished a game with all 3 points – they kicked off the season with back-to-back victories over Bournemouth and Burnley, before having to wait 5 months for another league win, this time against Brighton in January. Alan Pardew’s tenure as chief has only been a smidge more successful than Tony Pulis’, with the highlight the feisty 3-2 FA Cup shock triumph against Liverpool. Yet Cup success means little when you’re in 20th place in the Premier League, 7 points adrift of 17th place Huddersfield (admittedly with a game in hand). Pardew will be hoping that Daniel Sturridge, signed on loan from the Reds, can alleviate some of the pressure and in inject a bit of life into the join-second worst front-line in the league. Sturridge heads to Chelsea at a Super Mega PGM of 13-17, the same as Jay Rodriguez but ahead of Salomon Rondon at 10-14. If there was any time for a relegation-zoned side to face the defending champions, it would be now. All is not well at Stamford Bridge, with Antonio Conte’s men heading into Monday night coming off humiliating 3-0 and 4-1 defeats against Bournemouth and Watford respectively. This is also the start of a potentially season-defining period for the Blues. Failure to beat West Brom would leave them outside the top 4, while the next week and a bit also sees a FA Cup 5th round visit from Hull and the 1st leg of their intimidating Champions League last 16 battle against Barcelona. And they might be facing all this without Alvaro Morata, whose back injury makes January signing Olivier Giroud, at a Super Mega PGM of 48-56, the side’s best choice going forwards. Despite the Blues’ issues in the last few weeks, the Baggies are clearly far more fragile than their hosts, with Spreadex offering a Chelsea/West Brom Goal Supremacy spread of 1.4-1.6 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.6-2.8.
